Default In for a Penny, In for a Pound

I guess I need help.

The 968 Gods (both the old and the new) spoke to me some time ago and whispered that I was not considered 'whole' unless I had that open feeling of wind in my hair.

So, I acquiesced to their direction - but only under the condition that I get to make it 'mine'. The gods agreed - but with their condition that if I must make it mine, I must not take one of the fewer select colors but rather one of the more common colors. Further, they would certainly find favor if I would bring one back from the edge...

So, here it is. I pick her up early next month. Per Sir Jeff's fine records, it appears that she is 1 of 443. She will come home and enjoy a full reprieve but she will will undergo a transformation of sorts.

For now, please give a warm welcome to Wilma.

Does it come with the backhoe bucket? Color seems to match.

No, no bucket attached.

Price was very reasonable (read nearly free) and since I have a few parts left over from by current build and may (hopefully) have access to other sources to make the completion (well, nearly as far as I can tell at first estimate) - it'll be a very rewarding project in the end (I expect 2-3 years) for a complete rebuild.

Should be fun!

What is the story on it? Not gonna make it a speed yellow turbo?

Thanks for the lead for a potential source of parts.

Won't be Speed Yellow as it stands right now (already some of those out there - with at least 1 Turbo S and 1 Turbo RS version).

Before I saw Touareg’s post with the parts car link, I was going to say. “If I was your wife, I’d be saying No, No and Hell No! Every single impossible to locate nut, bolt, component and insanely expensive part is striped out of that hulk. Replacing all that crap with a mishmash other crap will only yield an impractical, rattly, Franken-car that will suck up money equal to a kitchen and two bathroom remodel.”

However, after seeing the possibility of getting that almost complete parts car.

I’d still say “Hell NO!!!”

Just joking. Hell yes go for it.

Thanks Raj.

Maybe we can figure out how to meet up during my trip to get Wilma. I'll pass through your neck of the woods to get her.

Good luck....but that has to be the most expensive way to buy a car! If you want me to look at the parts car, let me know, I'm not far from it.

Best of luck!

I remember the first 968 I saw in person, around 96 or so. I was a red cab. I remember loving the car, and feeling a bit jealous as it appeared to be a 21 year old college student (This is Boston with many a college!) that had it and no way I could afford it then!

Red with black, one of the best colors on these cars for a cab.

I had it marked as "dead" on my database as I even picked up a few parts from it. I guess I'll have to change that So the color will be?????

Best of luck and looking forward to watching the journey.
