Sweet!
Since Wilma is getting some special treatments all her own, one feature unique to the 92 year models that I found intriguing was the recessed hood badge. Wilma was produced at some point after this unique feature was discontinued...but today I struck gold.
Found a local guy who had parted out a Slate Grey 92 Cab a few years back that still had a few parts he wanted to move on to a new home. After a few pictures swapped, it became obvious that the hood was one of those 'unicorns'.
Went by today and picked up the hood. For those who haven't seen one - a few pictures below showing the recessed hood badge. The hood badges are identical in shape, size and mounting method - including using the same backing gasket. Only the hood is different. Not sure how many of these recessed hood badges exist.
The hood came home today and just in the nick of time. The first parts (hood, doors, fenders, hinges and trunk lid) are on their way to get soda blasted tomorrow. Once done, they go on to the painters for preparation for paint. At some point in the near future the chassis will follow.

Last major piece of disassembly completed today - the fractured windshield.
The windshield is installed with what appears to be a live rubber caulk that hardens to a pliable, yet very dense sealant.
Did a search on YouTube and found a short video showing removal and the tool used. $20 from Amazon and I'm in business.
Took about 20 minutes to cut out the damaged windshield and another hour or so using a heat gun and putty knife to remove the gasket/adhesive.
A couple of other minor issues to deal with (broken mounting studs) and then the chassis will be ready for final preparation for the soda blaster.

Very cool Jay great read thanks for including us and I'm stoked on your color choice it's fantastic! On your recessed hood badge deal like everything else acc with original porsche build facts nobody knows for sure but it's been speculated that around 200ish of the first '92 cars had them. I have had #86 was replaced though from wreck, and then #92 had the hood still, lindsey racing now owns it and finally #114 maritime blue which I have now here's a pic of the rare units Jeff could tell you what number car your hood came from. I've seen several more in San Fran Bay Area apparently there was a lot of lines for these cars at first in 1991?

Now this is VERY cool! LOTS of work, but will be a car like no other out there!
I am kind of doing the same thing with a car I have. A friend basically gave me a BMW E36 shell. It is mostly stripped. I am going to gut the remaining parts and paint it a rare OEM BMW Individual color option.

Having a Blast...
Thanks for the kind words - it does become a labor of love at some point (right 968Gene?).
Took a number of parts up a couple of weeks ago to get soda blasted, including the hood for the Coupe project (Ota).
If you look at the P side door, there was apparently a bit of an 'issue' that had to be corrected previously. I didn't get a good shot of the P side fender, but it too had experienced a minor wrinkle. Nonetheless, the damage has been revealed and will be massaged back to the appropriate condition.
The recessed badge hood turned out very well with no issues. It'll get prepped and cutouts for the NACA ducts will be done. I'll leave it there at that point (ala Turbo S). As you can see from the next photo, Ota (the coupe) will get the full blown Turbo RS hood treatment.
A few minor things to get done on the chassis before it goes to get blasted. Based on the painters schedule, it'll likely be late summer before space opens up in the shop. That will work just fine since I have to modify the front area to incorporate the intercooler and support brackets. Given my record, no doubt I'll need every bit of the next 4 months to get this accomplished to my satisfaction.
Thanks for reading...it's been alot of fun thus far. Can't wait to start showing some pics of color and re-assembly...

Every now and then, you need to sit back and ask, "so why am I doing this?"

Seats!!!
Well...as things start to wind themselves through tot he next phase, I find myself with unique opportunities!
Whilst perusing another site about an item recently posted for sale, the ad below it lists seats for sale. The owner of the seats wants racing seats for his 83 944NA - and offers his seats for sale...
The price was right and they were only about 2.5 hours away. Grabbed a cargo van from the local Enterprise and zoomed over to get them late yesterday.
Typical drivers bolster wear - but no matter, they will be recovered anyway.
Another piece falls into place...

Looking good Jay!
As for the hoods, the first 200 coupes and 300 cabs got them. They stopped at the end of November 1991.
I don't suppose you got the VIN on the dead cab?
Jeff
