Mecum 968 already being flipped
It sold at Mecum a week or so ago for $12k. Now a dealer has it for sale for $17.5k. These dealers obviously like 968s!
One weird thing, look at the engine compartment VIN vs the car's VIN. I've seen factory screw-ups like this before.

That's a great looking car to have only sold for $12k. Not seeing prices like that this week at the Scottsdale auctions.

I know you like them but the tiptronic definitely hurts the 968 resale. When I was at Mecum Kissimmee a few years ago they had a 968 that sold for $23k.

Was the $23k a tip? That seems to be around the going price for a 6-speed cab now

Aren't all firewall VINs ZZZ? I gotta go look at mine tonight.
On this topic, isn't the firewall VIN stamp done like at time0 of the car's assembly?
I would assume so since it is obviously before final paint.
And if so what does this look like on one of the many 94's re-VINned to 1995s?
Is the firewall VIN's year digit different than the final car's assigned VIN?
Anyone out there with a 95 that can look at theirs?
Just curious.
Oh, and might clean coral car there.

Both of mine have matching VINs on the firewall and my yellow coupe is a 95. So the VINs were applied late enough in the build process so that they didn't have to be changed. And no funny paintwork either.
This looks like a screw up and I've seen them before. I have a picture of a 968 VIN that has Xs all over it and then the corrected VIN below it.
This VIN doesn't even make sense. The Zs are all euro but the 840 and 820 series are unique to North American cars???

All the letters/numbers on the VIN on the firewall of my 93 match exactly the VIN on the door.

Sorry to bump an an old thread but I know this car. The guy ended up selling it to someone in a Germany. He sold it for 12.5. I know this because back then I was inquiring about this car and he told me.

M030 coupe, a coupe rolling shell, and a low mile salvage 6-speed cab that runs great with a rough body that I was planning to swap the drivetrain into the coupe from, but I'm still not sure. Maybe I should just paint it speed yellow and try to sell it for $30k for a few years? 😛
