Pull the plug wires off the spark plugs and see if oil is collecting in the spark plug holes. Fouls the spark plugs! This usually happens with old valve cover gaskets. Worth a look.

Sometimes trying to diagnose a problem via forums is like using WebMD to figure out what sickness you have... go in thinking you have a cold only to convince yourself you have Ebola. Ha, thankfully my problem was not a headgasket that I had started to believe.

I pulled the plugs and there was oil in the tubes. Cleaned them, the plug wire connections, and the rotor/cap and the problem went away. Definitely will be ordering new plug wires and rotor in the near future.

Now onto the valve cover and hall sensor. Got the valve cover off and cleaned it up a good deal. Cam gears and chain all look healthy and everything well oiled

Great to see a 968 picked up and dusted off for another chapter of enjoyment! I need to find someplace that can perform a complete restoration on my 968. I have tracked her for a few years now, which is not a great idea for mostly street car as it turns out, and now literally everything needs to be gone through. Would you have any suggestions for a resto shop? Thanks!

If you were in the northeast, I could make some recommendations. Definitely need someone who knows 944's/968's. My 968 is tracked but I'm doing my best to keep it in great street condition as well. Fortunately, I have an excellent shop (Precision Motorsports in Long Valley, NJ) or I wouldn't be able to do it.

Stuttgart Southwest in Tempe, AZ would also be able to do most everything with quality work. And what Jack can't do, he has friends with great local shops.

But, if your user name means where you live, there have to be good shops in Texas, I just don't know them.
