So the 968 will be in the Boston Area? Or just you?
i'm traveling from the LA basin to Chicago..... and on to the Boston area.
taking my time. will it be
the rim of the Canyon... then across barren Utah to Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Vail Pass
and the summit of the continent....
or the Godforsaken hellhole and a thousand screaming trucks, New Mexico Police State (I-40/44) route??
you have to ask yourself 1 question: 'do i feel lucky?'
anyone want a very low mile Sachs 968 clutch ?
please make haste and pm.

Just got an update worth posting.
Utah was stunning and the 80 MPH speed limit was noted.
Allen is midway across Wyoming right now.
Car's current nickname is Sledgehammer .
....something about 1,900 RPM is 110 MPH.
Car has seen speeds upward of 150 MPH without a care in the world.
(Yes, he's driving the car cross-country....It's a one-man cannonball run. LOL)

i left Rancho Cucamonga last night at 10 pm. 24 hours ago.
drove for like 3 hours and went to sleep on some mountain gas and go where it was cool enough to sleep.
slept 6 hours. got up at 7. splashed on some water, had breakfast and drove.
i'm at a Love's travel stop a few miles outside of Lincoln, NE.
i've taken a couple of breaks this evening.
but earlier today, i'd never driven a car so fast for so long.
between 90 and 115 give or take.
stepped on it a bit more on occasion when i saw i had a clear path.
hit no traffic whatsoever. not even in Salt Lake.
no construction.
what an insane span of interstate.
i think in the last 24 hours i drove for about 16 of it, and crossed damned near half the country.
about 1470 miles completed.
sledgehammer.
*dunno, but the power steering pump seems a bit noisy.

you can drive this thing 70mph.
or 85mph.
or like they let you on I-15 in Utah, and I-80 in Utah and Wyoming with the 80mph speed limits.
which is like they're saying, 'just do as you see fit.'
it's all good. sure beats I-40.
2200-2500 rpm (75-86mph) is effortless. the sweet spot, where you're light on the gas.
it was an easy drive today..... just enjoying the scenery, driving like an old lady....
frankly, Iowa is dull.
if i happened to look down at the tach...
it was somewhere in that zone. some guy in a Mustang wanted to go fast.
i didn't bother.
didn't care.
i'll check the instruments from time to time.
make sure there's no burst oil line or whatnot.
otherwise, i'm just a lump of poured out flesh.

with the Conti 285-35-18s, at 110mph, the engine is turning at about 3300rpm.
until the gps speedo goes in, i'm just going by the tach.
btw, once i was east of Chicago driving normal speeds, and cooler air (than the month previous),
mpg increased to 28mpg.
yes, i've had the car here in the Boston area since arriving 8 days ago.
just in time to stain the deck and finish cutting up all my wood. (i'm burning my bark pile in the stove at this moment)....
Doug, it's 42F here at this hour. i noticed Rancho Guacamole was about 104 yesterday.
that's too damn hot. this fall weather is paradise.
i'm leaving Sunday night to Chicago (in the Sledgehammer),
if you or Adam would like to drive the car this weekend, please pm.

i made it.
well, it was 6600 miles of bliss....... but then, sometime after Toledo, i got the v8 blues.
and that's not counting tidying up some of the body work in the nose.
Chicago is like a cure for being happy.
Toledo?
embarrassing we even have a sh_thole that bad in the USA.
my car didn't like it either.

well.
the car has no heat.
it's nice here in the southwest...
but if i wanna take the car out of here, i'm gonna need to figure this out.
thinking maybe Renegade Hybrids, and likely, paying up the butthole to solve the riddle.

the rough idling and loud exhaust issue was resolved in 15 minutes at a cost of 30 bucks
by simply installing bolts to attach the exhaust to the headers.
yes. you heard that correctly.
now i need to raise the low idle a little,
figure out the heat,
and address a couple brake rotors that overheated.
i've put another 3k miles on the car since leaving Chicago a couple of weeks ago.
