Backlighting
Guys,
Have a few poorly/unlit areas and wondering how easy it is to remedy. Areas of concern are:-
1. Instrument cluster poorly lit on right hand side
2. No backlight to gearbox surround showing gear position(can always look at instrument cluster of course).
3. No backlight to switch gear in fron t of gear lever - should it have any?
Thanks again for supporting this NEWBY,

Ned,
1. Try hitting that side of the binncle. Could just be a loose connection, but most probably the bulb is gone. When replacing make sure you use 3w bulbs and not the 2w a lot of guys use.
Currently trying to get my hands on an instrument binnacle from a 944S2 or 968, speedo etc do not need to be working, to try and improve the lighting using LED's.
2. There is no backlight to the shifter surround, just the readout from the tacho.
3. From memory only the lock switch which glows red when operated.

Will have a closer look at the instrument panel when I get the surrounds off to try and fix the odometer trip function. Thanks for the other info also.

If you can, take your steering wheel off first.
It is possible to remove the instrument binnacle with the wheel still in place, but the job is much easier with it off. Something I learned from experienceshall we say!

First, to state the obvious, make sure the thumbwheel is in the max output setting on the dash. Second, this is a well documented problem with these cars-do a search on the main 924/944/951/968 forum here and they'll be about a million hits for it. www.9xauto.com sells a kit too.
