Soft Touch Interior Repaint
Who on the thread knows the proper way to repaint interior soft touch painted items such as sport seat backs and consoles?
Must you take the soft touch paint off first?, if so what's the best way to do that?
The soft touch is so fragile, I really want to repaint some of my interior pieces that have become nicked etc..
Thanks for all your help, experience and knowledge.

I touched up some very obvious scratches in my Savannah beige center console. I took the ashtray to Home Depot and had them match the paint in an interior flat enamel, combination paint and primer. I dabbed it on with a small foam brush. I applied a few coats to build up the paint to match the surrounding area. When dry, I went over it with a rough cloth to take out any ridges. It came out great.
Just put a few drops of paint into a paper cup and work from that to avoid the risk of spilling.

I repainted last year. You won't get the soft touch back, but that's a good thing IMO. First sand it with 80 or 100 grit. Then wipe it down with acetone to remove any chemicals and dust from the sanding.
Then spray it with plastic adhesion promotor. Then apply the color. SEM makes excellent products for this. I had some scratches and wear, but wanted to break up the monotone gray on my interior so I went with a darker shade to provide some contrast.
If you do it right, it is very durable and scratch resistant.

Even simpler solution - Testors model paint - flat black. Dab on with a brush like touch up paint, it dries flat and looks almost like the soft touch texture.

I just received a shipment from http://colorplus.com. On a suggestion from another RLister, I ordered a product called Surflex that they offer for touching up the black leather on my e-brake handle and shift ****. They have other colors available, but not Savannah Beige. I just looked and they have Cashmere Beige. Not sure how close that is. I don't know how it would work on the soft touch leather, but I also want to touch up some scratches on the Horseshoe. I will test that out this weekend and report back.
