Default '92 Turbo S2 Cams

RT,

This is what I've got directly from Andial:

Hello Greg,
From my recollection they were the normally aspirated 964 cam with a stub on the end for the turbo sump pump. If it is out of the car the best way to find out is to send it to a cam grinder and have them measure the cam and see what it may reflect.

Regards,
Pete Sanchez.

Not sure I will be able get much more information. Will send if I do.

Kind Regards,

Greg

Call DAVE TRUAX at SSF for exact confirmation......he was the head parts guy at Andial during that period. The man is a walking Porsche parts encyclopedia.

I purchased a set of 3.8 RSR race cams obtained thru Porsche Motorsport from him back then (1994) that were never used until now. A couple of months ago we called him to see if we could get timing specs, and he had everything about the purchase recorded in his files.

Amazing !!

Thanks for the follow up. I'm looking for cams for the "some day" project.

I recently picked up a set of used 3.6 Turbo cam's (they were swapped out for a hotter grind). I sent them to camgrinder for a refresh (regrind) and confirmation of grind. They have the 964 grind.

AG...it looks like these cam's are going to put me out of my autox class as I need the SC grind. If your interested in these pm me. I'm into them for $425 and change but would work something out.

Thanks for the heads up. I may try to look for something brand new though. It will be awhile and I do not want to have to open it back up again ever.

I honestly haven't done much research on it as of yet. But it sounds like either the SC or the 964 will be a good add...or the S2, whatever they are.

Just looked it up on PET. Appear to be 964 cams. Left cam is identical part number. The right is similar but has the difference for the pump drive.

A 3.6 turbo set of cams would probably be a good setup for me then. Might as well do a 964 crank and 3.6 Ps and Cs.

Apologies for reviving a VERY old post, but can confirm the S2 cams have the exact profile of the standard 964 NA cams. We have one apart right now and sent them out to verify.

Cheers

Are you sure the engine is original to the way it left Andial.

I know of almost half these cars and only two had not had the cams swapped out to something different. How did you verify the car is one of the

Can't verify no one was ever in the motor for sure. As far as it being one of the 20, the owner did his due diligence prior to purchasing the car at Mecum this year.

Of the 10 cars you know of, what cams were in them?

There are several around here. I saw one of them recently at a concours event. Most of the ones I have encountered had the engines rebuilt and the Andial installed cams were almost always replaced. There is a white one around here that has had the cams removed but he has the originals in a box someplace AFAIK. IMO once the engine has been modified from how it left Andial it devalues the car. Glad to see you are rebuilding it as it was originally supplied by Andial. Assuming it is the real deal at least the cams can be sourced and reinstalled in those cars since their standard 964 cams.

I am just asking because about 8 years back numerous versions of these cars popped up and most of them were fakes and even while Andial was still in business getting them to confirm which vin numbers were modified was near to impossible. I have pictures someplace of the ANDIAL stickers that were on the real ones. They are similar to the stickers used on the panels supplied by the factory on the 94 cars but had ANDIAL in fine print in the background. Very hard to miss once you open the door.

Was this car one of the ones with the S2 badge or the ones that wore the plain turbo badge .

Anthony,

Thanks for the info.

This car has a plain turbo badge on it. Will check for any Andial markings.

Cheers

A Porsche Dealer or COA can verify ''Turbo S2", a few said ''S2'' on deck lid & some said ''Turbo'', 928 GTS badge was where they got the "S'' from & then used a Carrera 2 for the #''2''.

Doesn't get better than a real window sticker. CofA's have been known to be forged.
