I had a couple cyls at 15%. Rebuild made noticeable difference in sound at idle and performance at top end. Time to do it, but $20K is high for top end.

how much oil is it burning?
when you did the LD did they confirm it's leaking top and not bottom?

if the bottom end doesn't need to be done and it's simply a head rebuild and you don't go crazy you can probably get in for less than 10. but, if cams are trashed, rockers done, etc etc then the pricing goes up. All sort of depends once in there

At that level leak you're probably losing as much as 50hp at top end. Car will be noticeable better when done.

Now if bottom needs to be done too.... then it gets expensive.

they didn't mention where it was leaking. I get about a couple tablespoons full if the car is been sitting for four or five days. That's kind of scary you don't know how much you're in for when you go for a rebuilt. I could swing the 10 grand but if you have to do the bottom in and it's 20 or more that would be hard to explain to the wifey.

Find someone with another 964 and drive it to compare to yours....if they feel similar and it was my car I would leave it alone. With proper maintenance these cars can easily run 150k + miles without being opened up.
