Back then depending on the model some items were automatically standard but listed as options at least for the US market. The turbos came with sunroof and LSD but were not ordered as options yet the option sticker and CofA's all show the sunroof (650) as an option along with the LSD (220). The turbo automatically came with the 20/100 LSD for the 220 option code and the C2 if it was ordered with the option 220 came with the 40/40 LSD. If you look up their vin numbers and options you will get a list of optional items that were standard like rear wiper, sunroof, A/C, etc.

The cup cars and RSA were different vins and were built to specifications. AFAIK the Carrera's were automatically made with sunroof and A/C. The question is could you order it without or did you need to know someone who could pull strings to get one without. I know the ROW you could order with or without and no doubt the ROW RS, Cup cars and US RSA all came without and you needed to order it if you wanted it. No doubt not even optional on a cup car. I have never seen another unless there are two like this so I must assume nobody wanted to opt out of it or had no choice. I am assuming this is not much different than the 997 turbos and GT3's that you had no choice but to take with a sunroof.

When I look through the sales literature and selling guides for these cars I see no option 652 which I believe is the sunroof delete option code so I am assuming this is an anomaly. All the cars will show option code 650 which is for the sunroof. This site seems to be the most accurate for options and they do not show option 652 either. This car did not have option code 652 but it did not have option code 650 either???

the sunroof wasn't an option; its listed as standard equipment and it's included in the price of the car. Look at any window sticker. therefore it can be deleted.

guys (pu911rsr & u7t2p7). Tony provided the most accurate description of what was occurring back then, with options / deletes / & ordering.
nuff said. BUT I do thank you for chiming in, and THUS getting Tony to write up the description in his thread here. very interesting to know these aspects of how Porsche did business back then.

Interestingly I found the PCNA sellers guide and it states the Electric Sliding Sunroof is standard equipment on the C2/C4, turbo and 928. So was A/C and interestingly the Hi fi sound system shows up as an option on my car but is noted as standard. Rear wiper is optional. So they were not options and under the options section it shows code 650 for the rest of the world all models but does not offer it as an option for the US and there is no 652 sunroof delete code noted.

I would assume that this is the truth and someone somehow found a way to get a car built without. Just like the sole 928GTS. The GTS sans sunroof sold for 40% more that other GTS's years ago bringing 6 figures I am assuming this car would have been a collector but that is not its fate. Would be happy to make him a trade.

For some reason you had to option ROW cars with a Sunroof in the US we had no choice but to accept it. It is interesting that although it is standard equipment it is a separate line item on what we call a window sticker but shows N/C associated. There was also no charge associated with special order colors like my Cobalt blue or Amazon Green but the dealer could not order them unless they had a named buyer on an invoice.

The signal green was a standard color but this is probably one of the few if not the only non Sunroof US Spec 964. This may or may not include the cars sold in Canada.

The real curiosity here is $1245 for a 6-disc changer in 1994. That's over $2k today, sheesh.

Yeah and it is a total POS. My 928GTs has the cell phone option one of 7 I was told it was nearly $3650 back then but you got a custom leather center console with it. Nice analog phone with I am sure 20 min of battery life when you disconnected it. LOL. These were not cheap cars back in the 90's they were huge money. They were built like tanks though and are still running today which says a lot about them.

Anthony:
If that is the PAR car I remember, I called Paul about it in 2001. Had 149K miles on it and he said at the time it was going to need the top end done. Had it on consignment from a customer who had purchased another car from him. Car was a 1992 that was special ordered. Had done some DEs in the Northeast. If memory serves, the car was for sale for sale for a while when I spoke with him and the was told the owner would have taken high teens for it. Should have grabbed it. Eventually a Porsche tech I know had a girlfriend at the time who purchased it and several years ago he said she had fender bender with it and parked it but wouldn't sell it.

It's the gas guzzler tax of $2,200 when gas cost $1.11 gallon is what stands out to me. $2,200 in today's dollars is nearly $3,650. I wonder how that figure was computed.

Weird I thought I responded but it isn't appearing.

This is an oddity and what are the odds of two the same. It clearly stuck out in my mind back in 2001 but there was a 94 turbo S package car under cover I was trying to look at. I was looking for 94 turbos at the time but the turbo S was not for sale. I should have looked closer at the signal green car.

It is hard to say if the car I pictured is the same. The lighting was poor and I was not at liberty to check it out too closely. From what i saw it looked like original clean paint but it could have been a very nice quality respray. I did not look at the odo so I have no idea how many miles.

Funny how these cars would not sell years ago and now they are the most sought after.

Good question. I couldn't afford these cars brand new back then so it wasn't a problem I had to concern myself with.

It has to be the same car. What are the odds that there are two like this up your way in the NYC area. I am going off of memory but I remember Joe telling me it was a parking lot type damage. Like it was backed into a pole or something.

The signal green car was on eBay in about 2001 IIRC. The car was down in N.O. and was offered for $27k with a set of Antera wheels on it and about 70k or so miles IIRC. How many signal green no sunroof coupes could there have been in the US? I really wanted to buy it but at the time I had just bought a 97 C2S (yes hard back buckets) and I didnt have room for another car living in the city. Oh well. Chalk it up to the RSA I sold for $36k, the 94 Speedster that was stolen and USAA paid me $51 for, the 89 RUF modded 930 I sold for about $50k and more than a dozen others.
