Default CV Joint quick Q

Have done a quick search but not fully clear.

1. Can the outer cv joints be disassembled for cleaning? With other cars there's normally a special twist and you can get your first ball out - ooer....
2. How much grease in ml should one use per cv? I usually just cover everything and be done but these were proper packed....

Thanks in advance!..

Thank you. I had read both of these posts but not found my answer unfortunately.

Post 1 references the outer cv gold cap to be non removable but doesn't mention if there is an advanced method of disassembly.

Having just done mine this weekend the outer CV bearing is pressed on. You will need a shop to press it off unless you have the press. That said you can re-grease the outer bearing with a bit of cleaning then push in the new grease. The CV kits come with 2x 80g packs of grease. Hope that helps.

As to the outer CVs, i cleaned mine up and took a closer look.

They do have a circlip arrangement on the shaft which in order to release must be opened and pushed at the same time within a recess set within the race .

Not an easy proposition with regular circlip pliers so i just washed them out....

CV of Ocala will service inner and outer CV joints with a very quick turn around. And the bolts your CV will come back with are far superior to the gkn boots we buy at pelican, which fail way too quickly.

As to how much grease. I use those cardboard tubes of synthetic moly CV grease - you pop open the tube. And scoop out what you can with two fingers. That's approx the right amount of not slightly too much. Per joint. Works for me.

That said- when I'm not being cheep- I use CV of Ocala. They were recommended a long while back somewhere on rennlist, and they've been great Everytime I've used them.

A kit is just one end, so 160g. It says put a 1/3 in the boot, and the rest into the CV bearings. I think just packing as you said is fine.
