Want one bad...found this one...now what?

Seems like an agreeable way to determine the price if the seller says ok, but if you are going to flatbed it to the PPI shop anyway, go ahead and do it. Don't wait until April. I lost two cars when I was searching for mine, one by literally 10 minutes. And that car was one I was first caller on, and was told I was getting to see as soon as the seller got off work. Still pisses me off. Unless you live on the North Pole, find a way to do the deal sooner.

The picture you've posted and the text of your post tell me you'll be a great owner of an increasingly hard to find C2 manual coupe 964.
Don't involve others and second guess anything. What will a mechanic glancing over a 100,000 mile car tell you that you, someone who knows the 911, can't assume? Were this a higher priced car with a full rebuild, sure, get the PPI to make sure everything was done right and it's worth the cost. At this price, i recommend you go through the car yourself over the next few months and in spring have the valves adjusted/ plugs and wires done.
I'd personally forego the PPI and buy it immediately.

You have nothing to lose unless the title is salvage on that car. It looks great and at $30K is a steal! I'd say buy it without a PPI. Please PM me if you decide to pass up on the deal and would be amenable to sharing the seller's info. Thank you! Matt

Good luck with it! If/when you get it, lets go cruise sometime! Will be nice to see another local 964 on the roads I was just up at Perfect Power a week or so ago.

Agree. You would be a complete Moron to let that car sit in the garage. All it takes is for the owner to mention that car in passing at work to a guy like me, or if I came over for a party, to do work on the house etc. Insane to let it sit till April. That car at 30k is an absolute steal. We have the exact same car 91' c2 coupe in black.
Paid 12k with 71k miles 3-4 Years ago? Only overfilled with oil. Run! Don't walk over there with the cash. I WANT TO YELL AT YOU AND DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU! Haha.

Maybe what the OP typed earlier has been overlooked?...
"I will leave the money on deposit and the PPI will determine the sale price of the car. If it needs significant work, $30k. If it does not, $35k. If the PPI is a complete failure, no deal. I trust the judgement of the shop to determine the condition of the car. No big surprises for either party and $5k is not a dealbreaker. The PPI will take place in April (snow has to melt before moving the car)."

Rock Solid? .... Nothing is rock solid when you have a new-born baby in the house. Regardless of whether the OP-Buyer & Seller are "family friends",... I agree that if the Seller happens to mention this to ANYONE, the sound of another $10k-$15k in their pockets will change the arrangement of "deposit & PPI".
Ask me how I know. Just went through this EXACT same thing with a 1955 356 Pre-A Speedster that has been cocooned for 30 yrs. Family Friends too. We were the first to see it. Per their words, wife & I thought we were the only ones talking to them, and all the sudden it was sold for $100k. And if you don't know about those pre-A cars,... well then skip my post here.
Assuming they have past paperwork, and you've been around these babies since you were 16yrs old,... Buy it now without PPI. Even though you know the Indy shop,... who is to stop another Porschephile from stopping by & asking about it.
I liked the prior post comment about wanting to YELL about this,...
