Default Climate control fan

The climate control fan runs continuously and will not shut off. I am told it can be disconnected and a/c heat will still work with the fan but not the climate control option. They said it would be $700-800 to rebuild it if I wanted it to work. Anyone have any experience with this?
I would like it working but not for $700 if I can still have it function manually.

Are you talking about the little fan in the back of the climate unit? Just unplug it for now. You can do so without removing the ccu and reaching around under the dash. The "climate control" on these is weak anyway and mine is fully functioning. It does a just ok job of holding a temp but nothing like a new car so I just kind of treat it like any other manual climate setup. What that fan does is ensure that the ambient air is blowing over the temp sensor behind the little grates. When the fan stops the heat of the unit tricks the sensor tomthinking it is hotter than it really is and drops internal temp.

I've had my ccu open and it looks like the fix for a fan not shutting off isn't difficult. (Replace a single transistor for the fan driver circuit) I've got a proper solder station and equipment if you want me to give it a go :-)

Thanks just read Tore's fix too but beyond my junior high electric shop education. I think I will just run it manually for a while and can circle back with you too.
Thanks !!

When I bought my car there is a manual toggle that cuts off power to the CCU. When Porsche North Houston pulled the CCU there was a note on it that the fan runs continuously but since its a Porsche dealer they didn't dig too far into the issue online. The previous owner didn't want to spend the $1000 to fix the issue and the dealer installed a cutoff switch. I was thinking about doing the full transistor fix but to be honest, I run the temp/fan control at my discretion and I don't understand how this car is supposed to have a "climate control" feature.

Thinking along the same lines as you. Probably not worth dealing with it.

Be aware that the fan will run for about 20 minutes after you turn off the engine. If you're hearing the fan it has a bad bearing, typically it is silent.

You are talking about the 2 HVAC fans located on either side of the frunk? Mine runs continuously even when fan speed is set to "off". My p-car shop told me they have seen several 964's that work this way while others apparently do shut on and off; they assume this is "normal" for some cars ? Regarding the CCU rebuild - my unit has one snowflake button vs the 2 individual ones pictured. Otherwise, the unit appears the same. I've a 91 C4 964. As for earlydays comment- yup, my passenger side (US model) is making noise and yup, lubrication is a temporary silencer at best. $700 for a new one yikes.

So my make shift lube of the HVAC fan has been squeak free for several months now - I know it's just a matter of time till I need to replace. However, I'm getting what looks like cig ash- little white-gray flakes scattered on my interior which is black, so it sticks out quite clearly. I vacuum it up and its back again, I have to assume its getting blown in by the HVAC- any idea what this is? Like bits of the hose are flaking off and sent into the cabin ? I've no idea. Thank you.
