Default Engine Carrier Reinforcement

I'm having my 60K service done along with valve adjustment. Is this a good "while you're in there moment" to have my engine carrier reinforced? How about having the tins powder coated? Good time to have that done too? Anything else I should take care of?

Reinforcement is not necessary, are you running solid mounts? Although if you're having the tins powdercoated, now would be a great time to do everything. Doing the tins will save you tons over letting them rust through, especially the one above the muffler. Note that you can't remove the driver's side frontmost tin with the engine in place. All others can be removed relatively easily.

I've got a reinforced mount from rothsport. It's nice. Gussetted and powder coated. Reasonable price too.

Reinforced carrrier is a necessary item.

I've seen countless carriers bent on cars with oem mounts. Won't likely break, but when they bent at the ends, your shift linkage goes out of alignment and if anything is touching, you get big vibration and noise.

So if you don't have the funds, feel free to wait until it's a problem. If you have the funds, swap it for a rennline reinforced carrier and send yours back to rennline for the reimbursement.

Engine tins. If you don't regularly drive in rain or snow - don't bother. If you do, that's another must do. But that said, if you are going to have to pay a shop a lot of money, it may be cheeper to source a used set of tins, have them powder coated and ready - and then simply have the shop swap them out. Time is money, as it were...

It's a nice thing for piece of mind, but not necessary if mostly street driven. There are lots of threads where people are worried about their engines falling out, but you never hear about it happening. Get it if you want it, plus check your motor mounts for sag. Tight motor mounts really make a difference - in handling and possibly shifting too.

Driving with Wevo engine mounts and 700hp I've never seen a problem with this.
Lots of track time

$75 for the gusset and a simple weld and respray of the original carrier? It's an easy process so why not? I did it when I added wevos and noticed improved shifting, although the improvement was likely just the mounts.

Bill, have you ever seen problems with the engine carrier? Track cars I have seen and my ridiculous HP car don't seem to have any issues.

I have my engine rebuild at the moment so would be easy to add one if the turbos are not in the way. I'd have to check.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm leaning towards the new Rennline tubular carrier now. Interested to hear people's thoughts on this.

I like the idea of the tubular carrier - but keep in mind that the regular one is more than adequate - it's less expensive by far, and you get the rebate for your current carrier.

I'm sure the tubular one is made in response to demand. And that it's more expensive for reasons other than "it's better"- i.e. It costs more to produce.

That said, I am interested in hearing as well, if there is any real benefit over the standard carrier.
