Default Front Strut Maintenance

I need to replace the dust boots and bump stops on my stock front struts with H&R Green Springs already fitted

The shocks have to come off the car to do this, would it be easier to leave the top assembly attached to the car (4 nuts inside the trunk) and just remove the large nut on the shock shaft and then pull the shock out from underneath? The springs don't appear to be under much compression.

The other option is to remove the entire assembly including the top mounting plate and disassemble the unit outside the car. I think this method will make reassembly more tricky.

Let me what you think.

Do you have a spring compressor?

I am not sure how you could do what you are describing unless I am misreading your post:

Pull the whole assembly. With stock springs there's a fair amount of compression
and it all will get dicey without using the compressor.

I would undo the top strut nut when the car is on the ground, mine spun if it was uncompressed! Just undo it, don't remove it until you have secured the spring with your compressor.

Thanks but I don't have stock springs on the car, I have H&R Greens.
