Timing - ??
I have been playing with the timing on my car for sometime. I have put together a series of various timing charts and am trying to figure out what works. These are a few of the many timing tables I have found on various web sights. Of course this is the impossible question - not going to find an answer - but would like to try and get in the ball park before I go back to the dyno. I realize that some of the hot shoes here may not want to talk about their specific timing settings but I hope you chime in.
I once read on this sight that there was no need to have a higher timing setting than 28 degrees. Can't really recall what post or conditions - but it stuck in my head.
Also - that twin plugs can get away with less advance than single plugs because of the better combustion - Right??
One of the biggest questions I have is does the timing for an engine with a Varioram require a different timing setting over a non-varioram engine. And if so, which way do you move the timing?
I have posted 4 tables -
1. A close to stock timing setting
2. The timing setting I used for my last dyno run which showed 286 HP
3. A Motec sample for a 3.6 with minor modifications
4. A Varioram set up where the Alpha-N was based on the THROTTLE position not MAP. Anyone know how to cross reference this.
Any way just thought I would share and see what comes out of it.
( may have to repost the PDF file as I don't know if the charts will be readable or not first time around )

Ok - Here are some screen shots of the IGN tables - to make it easier without having to down load. Hope these are readable -

Twin spark gives a shorter burn time, which means you run less timing (~4deg less iircc) and get peak pressure at the same angle after TDC.
The varioram will increase the engine's VE in some locations on the map. This may mean you run less ignition timing, if you find you are knock limited in that region.
Do you have the VEMS knock control enabled? Do your logs show any knock?

Not wanting to state the obvious but are the knock sensors connected to the knock signal processing section in the ecu? That needs setting up in hardware for dual sensors I think. Then you can use the knock control features. You will need to set the baseline "background" level above which it will pull timing and then how much timing to pull. Best setup on the dyno with det cans to verify.

Mine came pre-configured so I cpuldn't tell you the exact steps to enable knock control from the hardware side of things I'm afraid.

Could you send me a pic of your timing table as a reference.
What firmware are you running?

1.2.11 does not support knock, it was added for "testing" only. You would need to use 1.2.3x but I think your ECU would need bootloader update for going beyong 1.2.11.
If your ECU was assembled before March 01 2011 then it would need bootloader update, if after, you can update to later firmware (with all the precautions during that of course).
Here's info about the bootloader update: http://vems.hu/vt/help/v3/general/bo...r_upgrade.html
Here's firmware upgrade tips: http://vems.hu/vt/help/v3/general/fi...ad_1.1.84.html

Race boy - yes, did research and found out what you confirmed. Doing "Boot-loader " update, then new firm ware. Then will have to set up knock sensors in program.
Do you have setting for Knock sensor section in VemsTune for 964??
Thanks for info
