Default CA Spec 964 vs Std US Spec

Tried doing a search with little success. Just found out my car is a California spec 964. What was different about CA cars? DME program different than std US spec?

Edit: Mine is a 1990 C03 spec. I assume due to emissions the DME program is written for better fuel economy. I also assume this affects performance???? If so, I need a new chip!!!!

Not sure but I have a 90 C4 and the emissions sticker under the engine hatch says it complies with all other 49 state cars and also CA for 1990 models, and the sticker also says OBD EXEMPT. Funny thing is mine's a 50 state legal car but to my knowledge was never sold in CA. Is yours an original CA car? As in sold in CA or just CA spec? And by CA spec I mean 50 state legal. What does the emissions sticker say?

Mine was originally sold in CA and has option code C03 under the hood. I'll have to check the emissions sticker tomorrow.

I'm curious if the DME difference between this car and my last two 964s are the reason this one seems a little lighter on power. Maybe it's just in my head.....

I'm pretty sure that by the time the 964 came along there wasn't
a distinction between CA and 49 state cars. Wasn't that a 70's & 80's concept?

I was told by a few 964 guys that early 89/90 cars had 49 state and CA versions. 91 and up were 50 state. I could be wrong tho but that's what I've heard from at least several people throughout the years

I have a stock chip from my 1992 964 for sale if you really want one. PM me and make me a reasonable offer and its yours.

My 1990 C2 was built 9/7/89 and is a California C03 car that was delivered in California. The door jam sticker as well as the emissions sticker on the rear engine lid specifically states California compliance. Some time in mid 1991 Porsche phased out the separate California compliance. I suspect it was nothing more than a minor DME tweak. Interestingly I've had multiple mechanics who have road tested my car and claim that it is unusually "strong" and it has the original DME chip!
