First 964 purchase - PPI/Rennfax in Grand Rapids, MI
I'm looking at my first 964 in Grand Rapids, MI and need a recommendation for a PPI in the area or a Rennfax. I searched and found a few older threads but looking for an up to date rec. I'm buying from out of the area so any help is much appreciated.

I feel like there's a mechanic in Detroit that works on them.
I stopped at my local dealership in Lansing awhile back just to see if they knew anyone that worked on older Porsche's and they said they had a older mechanic that knew them. Don't know if that helps.
We have a group in the Detroit area if you're interested in meeting up some time.

Are you looking at the C4 at GR auto gallery? There's a guy in Ann Arbor that works on older Porsches. I'll find his site and pm you with it.
Here it is:

Yes, that the car. I had looked at it when the prior owner had it for sale in VA but the timing was wrong for me. I have some good knowledge about the history of that particular car but need a good PPI to confirm.

Tread very carefully with GR Auto..... Sounds like that is what you're doing.
Ann Arbor is a 2.5 hour drive from Grand Rapids, so I don't think they'd accommodate that...
Try these:
http://www.germanautoltd.com/Services
http://www.euroautowerks.com/
Both are in GR.
Good luck!

I agree...A PPI at Euro Autowerks came up with many unmentioned issues by GR. The car needs considerable mechanical and cosmetic (rust issues and has been resprayed) work. There are also no maintenance records. I also have a sales history for the car over the prior two owners and (They purchased it from the prior owner on eBay) I know what it was sold for and based on what they are asking and the issues along with me not being able to get out there to physically see the car I don't think its worth it.

Be very wary of this dealer.... I purchased my current C2 from them, and thankfully it was a donor car for a 73RSR conversion with plans for a full rebuild, body work, interior etc... It was not in the condition it was advertised. I did find a local place to do a full leak down and PPI. They identified the issues I needed and painted a clearer picture of the car for me. Send me a IM if you would like their name. They were right in Grand Rapids.

Thank you for the warning and PPI recommendation. I've been getting similar comments about that dealer as well. I got a PPI locally last week in Grand Rapids In a prior post and they identified many unmentioned issues with the vehicle. I'm thinking it over this weekend but I am leaning towards continuing my search.
