It is what it is. The market has gone up. The days of $20k 964 may be over. That's not to say that one can never find one at that price ever. Take into account that a $20k 964 may need another $20k to get it running correctly or visually appealing. As with any car you will have many dogs being pushed as great cars. It is up to the buyer to do his of her research. Find out what things cost to repair or refurbish. Sometimes is better to pay a little extra for the right car. You will have more road time enjoying it. Time is the one thing in life we don't get back. If you buy something needing too much work for cheap, it will shorten your road time...now if working on your car is your relief from the world then by all means that is the way to go. Caveat emptor!

i looked for a looooooong time.
price may stop climbing but i dont think will come down.
now that the air cooled bug is getting into water cooled enthusiasts' blood, the price will only shoot up. while a 50000 C2 may sound insane, that's the min price to get one that in remotely decent shape. i saw a 75000$ one, granted it was LIKE NEW and i dont use those two words lightly. i made a very high offer, 68000 and thought i had it in the bag. next morning i got a call, the car was sold at asking and paid. that's less than 48 hours. crazy? perhaps. but c0mpared to 73S, 2011RS, 2016RS, $75k is rather low. so now you have those buyers giving you trouble.

Seems like the targa discount is even more than the C4 discount when compared to a C2 coupe. Maybe $5k discount for C4 and $10k for targa?

I would say $10-15k discount for C4, $15-20k for targa, $20-25k for cab. Add additional 15% discount for tip.

Yea you are probably right come to think about it. Targas aren't nearly as sought after as coupes for whatever reason.

So the owner of a C4 Cab needs to pay me $5K to take it away? -40K discount?!

Man those C4 Tip Cabs must be free!! -46K Discount!!

Forget about selling mine, I want to buy these 35K-40K discounted C4 Targa's and Cabs. Thanks for the laugh! I needed one today!

This is a C4 Targa.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...-48-900-a.html

So he should REALLY be asking $13,900. You know after your 'discounts'. You guys crack me up! Or that 964 would be worth $85K if it was a C2 Coupe?

Your numbers don't make sense.

No what he is trying to say using $50k as a starting point for a nice C2 coupe with a manual:

$50k C2 Coupe
$35-$40k C4 Coupe
$30-$35k Targa
$25-30k Cab

Then take off another 15% if it's a Tip. These numbers are probably pretty close give or take $5k.

So this car has been up for sale for 3 weeks. If it was priced well and a more sought after version it would sell in 3 days if not 3 hours. Bet it wouldn't have trouble selling in the 30s. Don't get me wrong it's a nice car in good condition, but it doesn't get the same demand as the coupes.

Thanks for the clarifications! I am kinda relieved, I am going to keep my lowly Targa as it's not a 50-60K car and that takes alot of the pressure off me.

No point in selling it as it's the same unloved bastard child as it always was

$30-$35k Targa More like 42-44 (+ in certain climate)

Tip I have to admit price adjust there....

I'm not sure how you can disagree. I just did the math from your previous post. Obviously this "discount" would be a sliding scale and I just chose $50k for the C2 as a starting point to give the example. For example if you think a nice C4 sells for $46k-48k then the equivalent C2 would be +$10k-15k more or roughly $56k - $63k. Which might make sense, but I think that is on the high end of the scale at that point.

Pichu - saw this car on ebay which would be an interesting data point. Very nice condition all original 1990 Targa C4 with a manual and 56k miles. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-...m=291547450409

Bid is at $31.2k now with a few hours left. I doubt it will get to LuxSports probably unrealistic reserve.

That's a good one to watch and I don't think it will get any higher (not much time left). Plus, I think people will get defensive if they are told their cars are worth 'not as much.'

I know I did But the reality is, that some models are worth less and I am actually very happy about that. I don't have to go around thinking my car is 50K, when it's probably closer to 20-30K. With a straight face I can tell my wife, honestly, it is nearer to a 20-30K car again

Sadly, winter is coming and I have to put it away. I wish I had a C4 now, I would drive the **** out of it in winter!
