Another vote for the wallet friendly Sumis, I picked up a set to replace my SO2s and I'm very happy with them thus far.

you should see what is on my 997 turbo.

If you want to save money on tires, I would go with Dunlop Direzza (regular spec).
Cheap and decent tire for the street

My C2 is also street/track. A bit more set-up for the track than my Z06 was. I decided to up-the-ante with the NT-01s on the C2. Drive the C2 to events, as well, on the NT-01s. Have done a couple thousand street miles on them too. Some wet driving without issue, but no heavy rain. Certainly not an ideal choice for a primary car, but a good compromise for a street/track car with limited wet use. NT-05 would be ideal, IMO, but I wanted the extra performance available from the NT-01s. YMMV.

It all depends on your skill level and risk averseness. Since you are an instructor, probably have more skill than most.

If it didnt rain, RS-3's
Is this RS-3 the Cooper tire?

Any updated reviews on the Continentals or Sumitomos?

The RS-3 is made by Hankook, it is one of a number of very good "Extreme Performance" tires meant for dry weather and not useable below freezing temperatures.

Thanks for clarifying!
The Sumitomos are looking pretty good, once I settle on some 17" wheels.

from 993 experience, sumi htr3 cannot be beat for the money, they are simply the best value

hkk ventus v12 evo also a decent budget tire, but a notch or two more expensive

next notch up would be conti dw, b'stone s04 - sticky well built street tires, close to mpss for street driving

re11, rs3, ps2, dunlop star specs are stickier/harder sideall tires more for track use and fair to poor in rain... really not ideal for mostly street use imho

i ran the direzza star specs and really liked them, even for light track duty. Be careful with a gooey compound like NT01s on the street when warm they pick up a lot of gravel and fling it up behind the wheels and shark fins.

I've run Sumitomo HTZR II's for the last ten years, don't know if I'll try the III's

I like the V shaped tread pattern

I currently have the Sumitomo II's - they were very good - already on the car when I purchased it, got lots of miles out of them, good road holding, quiet, etc.
I'll need new tires for next summer, been looking at the Conti DW as well - currently I can actually get the Contis cheaper than the Sumi's (both 225 front 255 rear) - that will probably sway me to try the DW's next...

Looking for help on tire size- I have researched till I'm blue but I can't determine an exact answer- mainly because I don't have enough knowledge to ask the right question(s). Bottom line, i've a 1991 C4 964, currently wearing stock D90's and getting PS10's put in. Recently got a set of BBS RS GT and they are :
18 x 8 ET50 and 18 x 9.5 ET 48. I understand that porsche does not advise fitment of 18" on 964, etc and that lowering ride height affects what can/cannot fit and that overall wheel/tire diameter ought to stay as close to stock as possible. That said, can someone please tell me what tire sizes are appropriate for my relatively common set up? I prefer not to roll fenders /flatten lines. Also, I'd like to use the D90's for winter driving (I'm in NY and dd is 991, wouldn't dream of letting the car sit bc of bad weather, appreciate many that do) so I'll be going back and forth w/ the seasons. Once I understand sizes, of course I'll need to get into specific type, brands, characteristics, etc. That's a whole other can of cray and I know that too has been thrashed within inches of its life. Thank you in advance and I really did research this b4 asking , just didn't want to follow another blindly although I'm sure it would work.
