Default Stereo/Amp install. Connector under seat question

Guys, I'm currently installing a stereo/amp/speakers in my 964. Got rear speakers in. Doing 6.5s in doors now, as well as amp wiring lay-out. There is a factory connector under the seat. Looks like original power/ground from original amp. Can anyone confirm? Can I use these wires to power/ground the new amp? Hopefully I can use them, then just add ignition/key-on connection. Thanks for the help!

You can use the factory wiring, but I was told by my local stereo install shop that a big fat fused cable directly from the battery is the way to go. They also told me to use the same size wire for the ground. And then you need the switched wire to turn on the amp.

Thanks for the info. Both wires appear to be the same size, which seems encouraging. I'm assuming that hot lead is fused? Trying not to run a new wire from battery if possible. Also, where is closest/best switched-power source? Thanks again...

Amp is just a little alpine mrv-f300, 75w X 4 at 2ohm

6.5s in door. Had to open door card a bit. Mounted to door metal. Using OE tweeter and crossover. If it sucks, I'll replace tweeter and crossover. The OE tweets look OK.

Rears were drop-in. They have an incorporated crossover. Foam tape to secure OE grilles.

Not to many amps will fit under the seat. I have a 300 watt in the trunk. I have a Kenwood powered sub behind the passenger seat. That old factory power wire is perfect for a powered sub, but I would run a bigger gauge wire straight from the battery for the main amp.

I also have this rectangular connector. Anyone know if I can use one of the wires for switched-power? Thanks...

I ran a wire from the switched wire to the back of the head unit, that way you can listen with the engine off.
Thats the same amp I put in mine, works a charm. Would still run a big power cable from the battery.

That rectangular connector is for the power seats. I guess you have aftermarket seats. I would leave that connector alone So that stock seats can be replaced if needed.
You can run a bigger gauge power wire to the battery and run a small gauge to the radio for switched power. The amp will turn on and off with the radio. You can use the wire that is under the seat for switched power, but the amp will turn on with the key, meaning it will be on even when the radio is turned off.

I guess I'll just run the power from the battery, then. I'll then run switched-power from the head unit. I've got to run the RCAs anyway, so that's no big deal. Thanks.

I'll see if I can hook-up for a run with you guys. Will keep an eye on the linked thread for updates.

I put a kenwood subwoofer under the passenger seat and used the factory amp wiring for power, worked just fine, just used a spade connector to press into place and then made sure it wouldn't short with some electrical tape around it.

Pick out your amp and the amp should specify what gauge wire should be used to power it. If the power wire for the previous amp under the seat meets the new Amos gauge requirement then use it. If not then run a new one to the battery with an inline fuse.

The amp calls for 8, but I made a run with 6 from the battery to the amp. Used 6 for the ground, too. Amp is now installed. All wiring for the amp is done, just have to run RCAs and switch power to amp. Waiting for head unit tool so I can remove CCU to remove redline radio blanking plate. Should have done by Wednesday/Thursday.

Thanks for all of the help, guys.
