Default A/C cool but not cold - not servos!

Thoughts appreciated:

A/C has just been refilled with Freon. Car is not cooling correctly. It blows cool not cold.

- the a/c line is cold
- both the temp control servos work correctly - and there is no difference between the left, right and center temps
- the temp remains constant over time just took it out for an hours run: cool but not cold

What should I be looking at?

1) Does the condenser fan come on?
2) Dirty/clogged evaporator?
3) Freon overfill, the 964 takes less Freon than most conventional systems
4) What is the actual temperature at the vents?

I have ordered a temp gun to measure temp

Hopefully not evap as the shop told me that (a) they put in the appropriate amount of Freon and (b) the A/C lines are cold so they think it is either in one of "blend doors or solenoids blending hot and cold air together". They quoted me 3 hours to diagnose and I'd rather try and figure out what is the issue before going back.

I say hopefully not evap as the A/C lines are cold. Correct?

But the servos are opening and closing both right and left.

I mentioned the evaporator because it can get dirty and clogged and reduce its efficiency in cooling the air......

Suction side should cool, even cold.

Discharge side should be HOT.

The spec for cooling is approximately 20 degrees cooler than the ambient temp at idle.. Stick a meat thermometer in the vents and see what you get.

Evaporator can have tiny leaks, and then dust/debris clings to the leaked freon causing gunk and funk accumulation, cutting down on it's thermal transfer.

My setup is entirely new/rebuilt, and the spec temp doesn't always feel 'cold' like my Audi, but it does cool the car eventually. Drove it yesterday for 4 hours on the highway at over 101F and it was fine.

Default Check to see that the servos...

That control the hot air form the rear exchangers are fully closed. You can take the cowl cover off from and check that the servos are fully closed. You can have someone cycle the temp control to see them operate. I would bet that one or both are not fully closing....

Quick Reply: A/C cool but not cold - not servos!
