what are the most common, if there is such a thing,
oil leaks on our cars...a late 91 in particular...i mention the date because, and i am just now learning about the 964, i have heard that the early cars had no head gaskets? a source of oil leaks?
...so, later cars, oil lines, ?what else...as usual, thanks in advance...

I'd imagine most are sorted by now regardless of the year, I have a 90 and no leaks whatsoever since I have had it (1 yr) and I haven't done anything to it. Having said that 964 went through continuous little changes throughout its production most apparent visual changes came in 1992 so post 92 models are more desirable but porsche made & sold 3 times more pre 92 model than post 92 so harder to find.

Burning Brakes
-Oil seal around camshaft for power steering pump (first project I did)
-O-ring for fuel pressure sender
-Seal for crank case vent housing
-Valve covers
-Timing chain covers
-Front and rear main seals (did intermediate shaft cover while doing main seal)
I have had to do all the above on '90 at some point.

And that oil pressure o-ring was THE major leaker on my engine.
Changing out both made for a dry motor.
And the engine bay stickers -- can't forget THOSE, now, changing year to year. OH! and the frunk and tail lid releases had their variations, too.
And, of course, the cars becoming better and better overall, right up til '93... Then my interest wanes.

Lessee... My '89 with 165K miles did *not* leak from the water radiator.....
Seriously, at that age and with increasing mileage, they will either leak, or have been remedied by now.

Don't forget the engine intake manifolds going from cast alloy to plastic.

all of the above plus all of the soft lines going in/out of the thermostat, oil return tubes, chain cases to block, soft sections of oil lines running from thermostat to filter console and filter console to block, chain tensioners...

O-rings on engine case thru bolts. I know early cars have this problem. Not sure when composition of O-ring was changed as a fix, if ever. I think over heating issue in early cars led to failure. Lack off head gasket isn't an oil leak problem AFIK as there are no oil journals in cylinders.
