What does the dipstick show when warm (oil temp gauge near second (8 o'clock) graduation)?

You able to ascertain exactly what they did to fix the leak? If they dropped the oil completely in changing the pipe and/or filter bracket can you find out how many litres they put back in? 9 litres would be typical for an oil and filter change.

Apparently they completely drained the system, and I think he said he put somthing like 11 litres back in. The car was warm at this point and the thermostat had opened.

11.5 litres is the full system capacity. Seems odd though they drained the whole thing when they didn't need to - still, fair enough though... Where is the level on the dipstick when hot and running?

Did they do a service while they were on bud?

Same pipe as the one that knackered on mine. That pipe is before the thermostat, so wouldnt have thought they'd loose all 11.5 litre of oil when swapping it out?

The was serviced in December and it's only covered a handful of miles since then, so they just changed the faulty pipe, and oil filter, drained what oil remained, and refilled the oil.

Not sure why they drained the remaining oil..

appears to be overfilled.
pretty easy to lose some oil- out the drain plug on the tank. ensure that the oil is cold beforehand.
you gotta be quick and pay attention. : )

Yes, I would drain some out immediately.
