Default FVD Brombacher – Your one stop Mahle 3.8L Piston and Cylinder shop!

Not sure if many forum members know that we sell Mahle 3.8L Piston and Cylinder Sets for the 964 models. I wanted to make everyone aware of the kits that we sell and how competitive we are with the pricing.

We carry 6 different sets of Mahle 3.8L Pistons and Cylinders for the 964. SCROLL DOWN TO SEE THEM ALL. Our Mahle Piston and Cylinder sets are made to our specifications by Mahle GmbH in Germany. FVD Purchases all Mahle products exclusively through Mahle GmbH in Stuttgart, Germany.

You can choose the set that best fits your needs. Whether you are looking for something for street use, street and light track use or pure race use, we have you covered. The list of options includes: 107 mm, 109 mm, Machine Adjustable Compression to fit your needs, pistons that accept the lighter 993 “Narrow Rod” and sets that accept the original 964 “Wide Rod”.

Always mention that you are a Rennlist member. We always look after Rennlist members with better pricing!

Here are links to our website and a brief synopsis of the kits....

#1 - FVD Part # 100 103 038 07 – Mahle 3.8 L Pistons and Cylinders (8.5:1-12.3:1 Compression) 107mm, 102 bore, wide rod (964). RETAIL $ 5,417

The ultimate piston and cylinder set for Racing use! You can adjust the Compression by machining this set to your specifications from 8.5:1 all the way to 12.3:1. Please be aware that we have found that some of the competition is pre-machining the piston under crown so you cannot machine the crown!! These sets are not apples to apples, be very careful!! You will not be able to adjust the compression ratio to suit your needs because you cannot machine the crown. If you do, the crown wall will be too thin and cause a catastrophic failure!!

# 2 - FVD Part # 100 103 038 04 - Mahle 3.8 L Pistons and Cylinders (11.8:1 Compression) 107mm, 102 bore, narrow rod (993). RETAIL $ 5,010

Our hottest seller, this kit will add 35+ Hp and is made for street and track use. The 11.8:1 compression gives you far more acceleration than the 11.3:1 kit. We only recommend this set with our software made specifically for this compression. Be sure to order FVD 964 618 XX. These are slip fit and no modifications must be made to the case. We have been building 964 engines for many years with the narrow connecting rod from the 993. These are made to that spec. So you can use the 993 rods, but we highly recommend using the Carrillo Rods we had specifically made for this kit which is part # FVD 103 975 03.

# 3 - FVD Part # 100 1003 038 02 - Mahle 3.8 L Pistons and Cylinders (11.3:1 Compression) 107mm, 102 bore, narrow rod (993). RETAIL $ 5,145

Perfect kit for street use, this is ultra-reliable and will give you many more years of bullet proof reliability. These are safe to be run with OEM 3.8L software or similar.

# 4 - FVD Part # 100 1003 038 06 - Mahle 3.8 L Pistons and Cylinders (11.8:1 Compression) 107mm, 102 bore, wide rod (964). $ 5,010

Our hottest seller, this kit will add 35+ Hp and is made for street and track use. These are slip fit and no modifications must be made to the case. Uses the 964 “wide rod”, or the Carrillo rod with part # FVD 103 975 02.

# 5 - FVD Part # 100 103 038 03 - Mahle 3.8 L Pistons and Cylinders (11.8:1 Compression) 109mm, 102 bore. RETAIL $ 5,145

These are slip fit for the European RS model or can be used if you modify the crank case. We make special software for this setup be sure to order FVD 964 618 XX and mention the part number of the pistons and cylinders you are orders.

# 6 - FVD Part # 100 1003 038 05 - Mahle 3.8 L Pistons and Cylinders (11.1-11.4:1 Compression) 109mm, 102 bore. RETAIL $ 5,010

These are for Factory RSR MOTORS ONLY!!

I am about (well several months from now) to send my engine off for rebuild. I really had not considered a 3.8L and still does notseems in my cards. However I am curious about what else would need to be done to do a 3.8L rebuild?

Duck,

I own a 91' 964 C4 and eventually I will convert it to a 3.8L (after I save up).

While I am certainly not a mechanic by any means, I would say that the major consideration is a a reputable shop. Once that variable is isolated then they can look at your motor individually as there can / will be things that can be changed / upgraded. Besides the pistons and cylinders, you need to think about rods, bearings, head studs, engine gaskets, head work, cams, oil pumps, etc. The best thing to do would be to get a few different labor & parts estimates together (bottom end of the motor and the top end of the motor )so that you know the best case scenario and the worst case scenario.

Thanks!
Rhonda

I've purchased some products from Brombacher in the past, and was always pleasantly surprised with the quality, and the amazing customer support.

Rhonda has always help me out with answers, and I even received calls directly with Mr. Brombacher in Germany to explain the technology behind their products of which I inquired about.

Now that's the best service I ever got from a vendor...

I am in process of building a 3.8 along with an ultimate Porsche 964. Rhonda and FVD have been fantastic. Quality in every product has been excellent. Prices have been very fair and delivery has been quick, even fron Germany. Great working with FVD.
