I got into the 993 market first, then when the prices started going up 2 years ago I picked up my 964 c4. I like them both, but if I had to keep one it would be the 964. I also picked up a 996 gt3 last summer as these cars havent been discovered yet by the collectors

In New Zealand, for the Turbo 3.6 at least, prices already exceed those for a comparable 993 Turbo. I sold mine to a UK buyer

I think they have everywhere but the 3.3 turbo's still seem to be selling for less then the 993 turbo's for now. The market seems to be changing rapidly on these though, who knows what the market could be in a year or two.

They back dated to the 60s and 70's so the 993 wasnt the best body for the job...
But given that the 964 headlights resembles the 60's and 70's says something to the newfound success of the 964

Has the day come when a 964 is worth more than a 993?

Let's do an apples to apples comparison. What is a 50K mile black on black C2 selling for in 964 and 993 flavors?

I got a good laugh at the 993 GT car comparison. I suppose each generation's owners says that about the next, until the only "true/best/last" 911 is a 901 prototype. SWB rule, LWB drool.

Here is a 91 C4 5spd coupe 79k miles that sold in 3 days for $37,500 USD. Cobalt blue on blue sport seats. Anyone know of a comparable mileage 993 C4 that recently sold or is listed?

I agree that 964 prices have been undervalued for a long time and have finally normalized. I have driven both and think they were always remain close in price (c2 vs c2 manual coupe, cab vs cab, C4 vs C4 manual coupe etc). Some want the classic 911 headlights/shape and more raw driving experience. Others love the lines of the 993 and the more refined driving experience. Both fantastic cars.

It already has the 964 turbo 3.6 is selling for nearly $100k more than a comparable 993TT. The 94 turbo S is about double that of a 993TTS. The 3.3's are catching up and are not too far behind however I am not sure they will ever be worth more than a 993TT probably about the same.

Of course condition and mileage all play a factor but that ship sailed over two years ago already.

A 901 will always be worth a fortune. How about this 67 S a true all original beauty. Very nice car very few survivors like this and will always be worth a fortune but as a driver I never liked the SWB cars. Still wish I had a storage facility to have one of everything.

Based on your stable I don't think you have to worry. That white over red combo always gets me. Is it matador red or another color red? I am a huge black interior fan but the white over red is one I would give into.

BTW they had a 3.0CSL at the auto show yesterday. I had an opportunity to buy one a number of years back and I am kicking myself for not doing so. Still one of the few BMW's I appreciate and wish I had purchased.

I have to agree with op on future value. 964 is the last of the classic 911s. Not only that, last truly handmade. I've owned two ultimate 993s (ruf turbo r and ruf btr) as well as a 97 993 and a 91 964. The 964 was so good it surprised me being a 993 guy.

In a rising market, dealers will ask crazy prices to try to push the market, but what are the actual sale prices?

Well, if any of you guys feel the 964 is going to continue past the 993 in value, let me know. I'll gladly take a 993 in exchange for my 964

97 993 Turbo S $440k 15k miles
http://www.goodingco.com/vehicle/199...e-993-turbo-s/

94 964 3.6T $330k 28k miles
http://www.goodingco.com/vehicle/199...964-turbo-3-6/

96 993 Turbo $220k 8k miles
http://www.goodingco.com/vehicle/199...che-993-turbo/

94 964 speedster $181,500 mileage not stated
http://www.goodingco.com/vehicle/199...964-speedster/

These are a few from Gooding there have been several 3.6T's sold in the $300K+ range recently and a lot that won't sell for much at all for one reason or another.

Each car is sold based on its own merit doesn't matter what model the good sell high the rest depends on many factors.

RSA's are seeing anywhere from $80k for very rough condition to upwards of $190k which makes no sense to me.

The are a number of 964's selling in the 6 figure range but very low mileage; original showroom condition with 993's in similar condition fetching about the same. The 993TT's are selling for RSA money which I still disagree with. The Turbo IMO is worth more than an RSA. The 94 964 Turbo S has seen numbers in the $700k range and some are asking as much as $950k who knows what they will actually sell for.

What happens next should prove interesting. The obvious problem is the 964 has been trashed on for so long very few clean low mileage examples remain the 993's however are newer have less miles on average have been better taken care of and are more available due to more being made.

I will leave it at that.

wow Tony.

I'm really surprised to hear you say something like this and actually strongly disagree.
