Has the day come when a 964 is worth more than a 993?

Yeah, those aren't very good examples. Different interior and exterior colors, different ends of the country, etc.

Theres going to come a point when people say "I can buy a used GT3 or a new GT4" and GT3 prices go back down again.

I am not so sure either are great comparisons. You are comparing a 90 C2 to a 96 C2 I'm not sure that is a level field either.

It is no secret that the early 89-90 964's and the 95 993 were the ignored years for a long time. Most of that has changed but the serious money has always been the later years of both models; low mileage. Unfortunately bidding ended for the 90 (assume it sold for some $$$?) Which could mean a faster market or demand and if it were to sell for equal I would say that says something. A lot of people I speak with express interest in the later MY cars still today but any nice version is always a seller.

96 is generally the least diserable of the 993's. 95's are now very popular in the states with smog inspections and for those that don't want the hassle of the immobilizer and 97-98 had a programable ECU. The ECU in the 96 is not programable and requires a replacement from a newer car if you want to tweak the programing.

We are overthinking this. 92-94 Carrera 2s are almost impossible to find these days, period. And 95-98 Carreras are really not THAT different from one another. So to have any meaningful comparison you have to include all years and just compare by body style and drivetrain. The majority of buyers out there are looking for a "964" or a "993." Can't be too picky these days unless, if the right car show up, you ****** it.

BTW I've had 2 '96 cars, would never trade them for a 95, but that's just me.

Thank you. I started my search for a 964 or 993 in 2013. A year later I had looked at a few and had a failed PPI on a local 964. Then a wonderful 97 C4S fell in my lap for more than I had budgeted. I am glad I stretched and made it happen. Both cars are great and I bought the best condition manual coupe that I could afford.

The delta has definitely narrowed on these cars even since 2013. At that time there were 3 964 manual coupes to choose from in Vancouver for about 25k CDN. Once they were gone the supply dried up in my Canadian searches.

As mentioned, the supply of quality 964s is very low and continues to push prices higher.

That is why I am holding onto my 60k mile 93. It wasn't easy to find a 92-94 even when they were available very few made for the US market. I should have all the work done in a few weeks it should be like new when I am done so we need to go for a drive if we can get the temps out of the 30's. It is almost May right?????

BTW when are we swapping out those motor mounts?

IMO this sums the value thing up. I think in the long run both 964's and 993's will have a similar (high) value with a slight advantage for the 993 as it is the last AC but the difference between the two will be less than it has been in the past. This obviously excludes particular models and is based on cars in comparable conditions.

Maybe it's just me, but I find the 964 to be everything I could want in a classic 911 and the 993 (as well as the 996) just look like styling exercises that went wrong. time will tell, but I get the feeling that the future will judge the 964 is the more beautiful and representative design.
