Lightweight battery
Guys, i'm considering a lightweight battery. Has anyone got any newer info on what i found below, including fitting kits and best places to buy?
TonyTaylor - Odyssey 680MJ 6kg, £150 in 2008. Appears to be a motorcycle battery ?
SuperUser - Odyssey PC925 12kg (2012) -
2002M3Drew - Braille 3121 (2012) currently £210 + fitting kit

Mine is still going strong with limited use. I did see some threads going around with people that were building their own Lithium batteries with a123 cells.

technology is really coming around in this area.... if interested, you can make a pretty cool battery:
(copy and pasted from an earlier post)
Think outside of the box, think of how you can take advantage of electric vehicle technology, BUT not have to drive one?
My battery should still be good for a couple more years, but my next battery will be similar to what Steve Wong made. If it's good enough for Steve, it's more than good enough for me. Such a clever guy!

Steve says, "Want to take a lightweight battery to the next level?
Four ultra powerful A123 Systems lithium packs, originally developed for the Chevy Volt, used in the Fisker Karmas.
Total weight including case: 6.5 lbs. Power equivalent of a 60 lb lead acid battery."
A123 Systems 20Ah Prismatic Lithium in=on Cell (seen individually @ 16 sec.)

Considering how long these batteries last, really makes the investment reasonable. A buddy of mine is an electrical engineer, I'm gonna see what he thinks about helping me build something.

Thanks for the responses folks. That voltphreaks one is amazingly light! Not sure i have time to get into building my own lithium one, think i'd prefer to buy a proven battery rather than risk it exploding on me i have little idea on this area, but i imagine they will be super popular once you can buy one off the shelf.
Might investigate the 680MJ for now as it seems the best price/kg

I've been running a PC680 since about 2008, as long as you dont let them go flat too many times they seem to de quite well. I've only just recently replaced the 2008 battery with a new one. Bought from here:

A guy on IB is just trying out an alternative which is half the price:

Thats my Voltphreaks. Works great and has some electronic gadgets to protect it.
So far so good, been running it for a couple months.

Gosh darn. I wrote a nice post and I got logged out!
Anyhow, a friend of mine recently opened a company and makes batteries in carbon fiber casing, which weigh a lot less than the voltphreaks and other options and is actually cheaper. Testing was completed just this year.
as you can see: 1.18kg or 2.5lbs vs. the voltphreaks 5.25lbs for the 22.5Ah version.
If anyone is interested let me know and I'll ask him.
