Hot off the autoblog.com press, Porsche Classic has released a new radio more in line with the design for the 964/993. I loved the older design but I think this blends perfectly with the 964 switchgear.

Great news and awesome looking although the velcro'd USB dock is a bit cheesy given the expected price. We shall see if it becomes available in the US.

I can't hear my stereo in the car anyway... and my iPhone is a better navigator than most... so I don't see the need for this? Any idea of the retail price?

Pricing is north of $1300 USD.
I like that this option exists, but I personally wouldn't want it. Smartphones are among the best nav devices out there and I have one of those already.

I've been waiting for them to release the new version. Nav or not, this is def the best look HU out there.

But prob not worth the cost when it comes to sound quality.

I love this radio but my current one is barely on at all. It seems like they got the fit right with this revision as the previous one was poking out of the dash an inch or so.

The CDR-220 is a great choice like mentioned above. I'm going to go with the Kienzle-MCR-1014 a bit later as its cheaper, looks OEM, and has some modern functions. But overall I'm just getting it for a good OEM look. There is also a Bluetooth option (MCR-1016 I believe).

Actually $1,300 is really not bad. How much does it cost to add Navigation to a normal car from the dealer? Or even to purchase an aftermarket unit like Pioneer or Alpine with Navigation? I bought that stupid Nav-TV unit for my 997C2S and it was $800 and it's really useless. If it works good, I will be a buyer.

To spec PCM on a new GT4 (not that you can buy one) it's over 2,000 GBP so when you put it like that, the price for the classic is not outrageous.

I have one of the original units which I don't believe were available in the U.S. but I can confirm the sound quality is great and as good as you're ever going to need in a high performance sports car.



I may be wrong but never really saw the need for paying for a top-end sound system where there's lots of background noise from an engine, fan, tyres, exhaust etc. But, I don't mind paying for something which will do everything well....and it does.

I'm also pleased to see they have addressed the problems of the piddly little control buttons. I notice that the advert shows an iPod/Phone connector but I've always found the bluetooth option on mine to be more than adequate for playing music and phone connectivity.

My only other reservation is that the screen is not very big and and in a RHD car quite difficult to see during daylight (reflections), althought this should be much better for a LHD car. The verbal sat-nav instructions however are brilliant and on-point.

I just wish they would have made the same unit without Navigation. I can't be alone in this, I have several newer cars with OEM in dash nav and I NEVER use it. I pull out my trusty IPhone. If they would have done that and the price was ~$800 USD or less I would do it just for the nice form factor.
