964 Door Handle project

964 Door Handle project
Some progress and pics from My 964 door handle project. Nice and fun project for a cold winter. Thanks to Tom at Lemass for the handles and M. Walker for the idea.
1. Looked for ~ year for a reasonable set of 964 door handles. Come across Tom at Lemass by happenstance. He has a sent and we arrange to have set stateside.
2. The original handles come off and go into storage for the next owner of my RSA.
3. I have good and generous friends that own a top notch medical device machining company. I send them a pic and the handles. A professional result come back. Decreasing diameter holes and countersunk, perfect!
4. Remove 22 years of crevice grime and old paint. I seems that I should reinstall just as they now are.
5. Have been thinking long and hard on what color to re-coat. Was originally thinking of the matte black like to original handles but the dilled aesthetic gets lost. I reviewed M. Walkers handles which are chromed, not right for a 964. The deciding moment... just finished reading most recent Porsche Panorama #694. Two good stories, Porsche 911 # 300128 which raced Sebring against Porsche factory wishes and Porsche #11111, a 356, split windscreen Lemans SL type. Both cars are black with silver handles.
Mine will be the same, black with silver handles that match the silver Cup1 wheels.
6. To be continued...

Paul,
Thanks for the email.
I should have given you credit at the beginning of this thread.
In my Step 3 (above) I indicate that I sent the handles to a machine shop with a pic....the pic was YOUR PICTURE from the Rennlist posting.
Sorry for the oversight and THANK YOU for the pictures and great layout.
This is the first time I have seen the installed picture... NICE!
As mentioned in step 5 I think the drilled aesthetic gets a little lost with black coating, why I am thinking silver. Did you use black for a specific reason, i.e. originality or is there some other technical reason?
Thanks again,
Rob

Hi Rob,
That's great ! I'm pleased it was of some help
I know what you mean about the all black, it's all a matter of personal taste. When I fitted my SRP Racing pedals I wished I had ordered them all black instead of with the silver countersunk holes showing (see below), it was my own fault I thought I'd like it..... but I didn't
As you can see below the counter-sinking doesn't quite show after the powder coating has been applied but overall I'm happy with the result.
Also FYI we tried to anodise as first choice of coating after they were stripped but the quality of the alloy used on later 911's wasn't as good as the earlier cars and it doesn't take too well.
I'm having the pedals painted matt-black crackle now anyway to match the Rennline passenger footrests so no harm done.
Cheers,
Paul

The thing about anodizing is that is fades if it's exposed to the sun a lot. But, it looks good and so many color options.
I like those in black btw. Looks clean.
The only thing I'd worry about silver is that is doesn't really match anything on the car.

Well here is a final project pic. Not the best photo composition but you get the idea.
I started off with painting the handles Wurth silver. Really didn't like to outcome, so I stripped again and applied a light brushed finish, Then applied clear lacquer. I got the desired effect. Complementary silver wheels, decal, handles. The handle machining features are really more apparent (i.e. chamfer, graduated diameters).

End result
Well finally got the RSA cleaned up, back on the road with a "shake down" run on WGI track.
See below pics for new drilled handles and installed front Cult-Werks ducts.

Love all the silver highlights together in that last picture.
