930s or airbags?
I, like most of you have altered my car quite a bit but this project has me stuck in limbo. I've acquired an authentic 930s steering wheel. Not a replica, the seamless real thing. My dilemma as you may have guessed is I'm losing the airbags. I'm not too worried about the driver's side but the passenger airbag will be disabled as well. My wife hates the idea, my 28 year old son doesn't like it and even my trusty mechanic says the liability issue makes him cringe at putting it on. That stupid 4 spoke airbag wheel looks like a shoebox to me. I've got to do it or not do it because there's a limit to how long the guy will wait and take it back. I've got $777.00 in this wheel and it's still in the box. Is there a way to keep the passenger airbag? There are so few wheels that fit these cars. Help!!

Sell the 964 and buy an 89 or earlier car with no airbag.
I'm with your mechanic. If you take away the airbags and someone gets hurt, you will be liable. Worse, you will feel responsible.
Soooo, get a non-airbag car. You will likely make money on the deal anyway...

Very simple - get a 996 airbag steering wheel:

Please elaborate on the airbags "lasting" only 10-15 years. What does this mean? I have airbags in my other daily drivers that are 19-20 years old respectively. Are they going to spontaneously deploy?

There is no Porsche-specific timeframe for airbag replacement, however they do recommend inspection of the airbags at specified intervals. See pages 5 & 6 in the attached Excellence tech article from Tony Callas and Tom Prine of Callas Rennsport.

My mistake - it does look like it's a little more involved. See here: https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...n-a-964-a.html

I am not going to say I am the smartest one out there, but I wasn't about to risk having the bag deploy if I hit a pothole or a joint. Of course, those chances are slim but I really dislike the look of the stock steering wheel and made the switch.
That said, if and when I have kids, I will have to look into a new airbag wheel. I also do let my passengers know that the airbags have been removed, so the choice is theirs
Hope you find a solution!!

Three Wheelin'
I pulled both airbags to fit my pd momo wheel. 25 yr old airbags scare me more than liability of an accident.
I guess the answer is weigh out your own personal pros and cons, then see what comes out on top.
