Default How long to you plan to keep your 964?

The recent thread titled, "If you were to replace your 964..." got me to thinking about how long people plan to keep their 964s.

My immediate thought was, "forever, doesn't everyone feel that way?"
The 964 is exciting and rewarding to own and drive, and more car then most of us can handle. You can spend a lifetime getting better as a driver just by owning one. How could anyone grow tired of this car...

Of course we all have different needs and budgets so that's a big influence. Some people are serial car buyers, others are happy they can finally own a 911.
Plus there's 50 years of 911 to explore, so change might be good too.

Lots of us have had these cars for a while, and at the same time there many new owners coming on this forum every week, so it would be interesting to see what the group trend is.
What are your thoughts? How long to you plan to keep your 964?

I have no plans to sell mine. I got a great deal on it, and can't think of anything even close that excites me the way this car does. I don't want a $$ car, as i have kids and don't want to be worried about it, or feel like it's depreciating every day.

I am considering a change, for changes sake and also potentially something that will make it less likely my mate in his poxy Audi A1 will be faster than me at track days (yes, the driver is the issue).

I'll keep tweaking the car indefinitely.
Years from now maybe I'll put a quiet exhaust or maybe even a tip transmission with comfortable suspension and comfort seats...

Point being is that as I change, I'll change the car to suit.

This is was/is my reason for being in a 964. Infinate possibilities. When I'm bored, I can change it.
Odds are I'll keep striping things away and finding ways to make it more raw and annoying on the streets until I hate driving it. And only then will it be perfect

I admire that you are always working to change and improve your car.

The new seats and interior will be fantastic.

For me I just keep up the maintenance and haven't changed a thing in my 7 plus years of ownership and don't see any changes in the future.

As to the length of ownership question. I hope to have her as long as I can drive and then I hope my son can find a place in his garage for her.

You never know what life can throw at you but I have no plans to sell mine either. I actually wouldn't mind adding a Coupe and/or Targa.

No plans to sell. No desire to drive anything else. I had major withdraw symptoms after driving my fathers 996 C4S for 2 days while I waited for the Leathertique to do it's job in my car!

I WILL eventually get a 3rd car - mainly for the really bad winter days. For now, it's my only car and I don't want any others.

If I was made a silly top-end offer on the car, then yes I would sell it.
BUT... I'd be back out on the street right away looking for another 964 to start again on
For the money, there is nothing else that comes close in terms of shape and sound track.

Speaking for myself, I don't understand the endless appeal of the 964. Yes, it's something to own a Porsche, but I wouldn't consider it the end-all be-all dream car for me. It's just a stepping stone in interests, and while it's a generally great performing car, it's outdated in technology and design by a long shot.

But thats what makes it so great!

If you a driver-driver I suspect you will be back in a 964 after your next few stepping stones, we'll see you back here in about 2017
