Default Anybody delete the spare and Jack to save weight?

I'm thinking about putting my 964 on a diet. Just thinking of easy low hanging fruit to drop some weight.i'm rarely less than 10 miles from home my wife could bring me the spare if I ever had a flat.anybody else do this?

I wouldn't really want to run the spare if it came down to it anyways, so why not!

IIRC I think the spare affects how the front end crumples in frontal crash situations. If it were me, that wouldn't bother me though

I wouldn't be able use my spare as my compressor stopped working years ago. I actually tried to test it and it was dead.

But I also read somewhere that the spare tire is part of the safety structure or crush zone.

I cannot confirm this.

I can confirm the spare is part of crumple system. My car was totaled and the spare now is on my garage wall as a hose reel and it looks like a Pringle. I did not get a scratch in the accident. I would attach a pic, but can't from an iPhone. I guess this site has no desire to fix this ongoing problem.

Greg, you can see your bent spare rim in the background of this picture:

The car probably handles better with the weight over the nose.

Yeah safety aside, think a bit about weight distribution. There are a lot of ways to save that extra weight, so I would look elsewhere first. Like a cup pipe...get the weight out of the rear behind the axles, and also maybe a sunroof delete. Get the weight up high out and lower the center of gravity. Lightweight seats. Take out all the sound deadening material, carpets, etc. You will find easily 100+ pounds before you need to worry about the spare tire. Porsche was pretty specific about not taking it out. So for me...if it's only you and you are on a track, do as you like...but don't squish your passenger...jmho

And where it shd sit in frunk? Is that welded angle bracket just back from the ABS ecu?

The compressor is in a rectangular black plastic box that fit inside the spare wheel, together with the plastic gloves and the plastic bag for the flat tire, so it doesn't dirty the interior when driven to the tire store.

New 911's don't have one. If you reduce weight from back then you need to reduce weight from front to balance factory weight distribution. Safety though is an issue but you should be able to substitute the spare with light weight reinforcement of some kind.
