Looks good.
I emailed Elius yesterday and got quoted on a Singer style in Corian.
Happy with the price so might pull the trigger.

I've also spoken to a local fabricator about the cup. He said injection moulded plastic would be too expensive because of the mould.
For small runs, metal would be best and said a combination of rolling and folding to make it possible. You probably have to do it in sections and weld together. Then the powder coat it to make it look like one piece.

Seems expensive...

My mate suggested a routed timber mould used to make a fibreglass cup/tray. Sort of like surfboard construction.
He can do the mould for me, I just need to sort out and acquire the rest of set up.

Could a 3d printer be used to produce this? Just a thought....

I don't know. I have no experience with them. Has anyone ever used one? They sound pretty cool. I am sure if they can make guns, they could make this cup!

I can't articulate exactly why, but this thread is getting funnier than hell. I'm totally in for whatever gets produced from this effort, whether my car needs it or not!

While I don't have a ton of experience with 3d printing, I don't see any reason they couldn't be printed, it'd probably take some manual work after the fact (some light sanding, priming, and painting if you want it to be shiny), but I don't see it being a terribly difficult project. A piece that size would take a long time to print from my experience, so doing a large run of them might not be very practical. I know a friend that does a lot of printing work, and they use it more for prototyping, and to make molds from which to cast lots of items, vs. using the printer for several pieces.

I'll mention this thread to him and see what he thinks!

If someone gets me some dimensions for the cup I can mock it up in 3D and get it quoted for a printed version quite easily

Really hope we can get somewhere with this, really like the look. I've a mate with a 3d printer I can tap up if you've got the dimensions we need

13oz = 368 grams - that's a good weight! (if you're not ahab)

ok that makes more sense .. the TWM shifter have some crazy heavy metal insert
and i think they get to that 12+oz level .. but the shifters are too big, bulky and generally not right for our needs
.. wonder what that corian or ebony one weighs?

Does your idea eliminate our need for a cup?
