I have always positioned the rear axle stands in the location pictured below. I think this comes from a photograph in the workshop manual that shows the inboard point to be the lift point. But is there any reason that I cannot use the outer point as it appears to be as reinforced is the inboard location?

I was thinking I'd make a bar to bridge between the front and rear points, then I stumbled onto www.liftbars.com (no affil) and I notice they suggest 49" pin spacing. That means that it uses the outer hole furthest forward, not the one all the workshop manuals point to. Is it supportive enough there?

I've used both the inner and outer jackpoints with no issues...I don't see any reason not to use the outer as you like. Be careful to use a jack pad since its close to the oil lines and the plastic side skirts. A shop once jacked mine from there on a loft using a 2x4 as a pad and it stuck out far enough to rest under the shark fin and it broke the fasteners.

I have two bits of 4x4 that connect front and rear jacking points. You can put the jack stands anywhere you want under them. A couple of ridges either end with a wheel bolt in them provided clearance and something to stop them slipping.

As my car is lowered I jacked it onto timber blocks 1st.

Its kinda farmyard and takes a while but it works.

So a 4x4 that is 4 feet long doesn't yield (bend or bow) in the middle under the weight of the car?? Does it bottom out along the rocker?

Yes. Allows me to get the stands under the jacking point. Borrowed the idea from liftbars.com (no affil.)

I would have purchased a set but my lift points are bent and I'd require custom pin locations, plus I'm up here in the Great White North.

I thought about that but the bar has to rotate as it is lifted, then again as the other side gets lifted. I'm going to grind a hollow in a hockey puck to fulfill the rotation and security.

I lived in Singapore for three years. 5 million people and One rink but it was only about three quarter size. Flew to Bangkok three times for hockey tournaments.

Its 4inch by 4 inch and the same as the metal ones you produced. There is a little deflection but no enough to be an issue as you dont jack from the centre. I jacked towards the rear first to get the 1st axle stand in. Then the front and it can be a little messy as you do it in stages if you're going high.

If you cant weld / dont have welding gear my way works.

Your way is the better way, probably safer and you can do it in one hit. Is that a scaffold pole? My welder has just arrived and this will be a good test.
