Need shift knob brainstorming help

Three Wheelin'
I thought mine was linen until I had a leather piece sent to me from Alan Gun in FL. and it was raspberry grey. Looks identical. Mystery continues as the color code tells me nothing according to my research.

Wouldn't it be easier to find a nice piece of aluminum pipe you could polish and slide over the flat, ugly shift rod? You could cut the pipe to length so it is flush with the bottom of the ball and then attach the adapter 928 makes on top.

Here is a "917" **** on eBay that looks similar to what a PP showed:

In terms of the sliding the pipe over, would it be possible to contact 928 motorpsorts and ask them to make a very long and wide adapter piece. That way the securing screw to the factory rod would be hidden by the boot, and since it's still an adapter just longer, you could just put any **** you want?
On the other hand, would adding this weight onto the rod be more stressful to other components?

Hi,
Buy another **** similar to this with G50 pattern and take the cap off and adapt it to fit.

The 911SC **** in gloss black is the classic 911 **** you just need a cap to fit with correct pattern: Volvo and VW also use this pattern.

No probs. It probably won't but I'm sure you could file one to fit, then super glue it in in need be. A few nice clearcoats of epoxy to finish.
Cheers,
Paul
