The wheel carrier was bead blasted, checked to ensure nothing was bent, crack tested with dye, the wheel bearing replaced then painted. So it's back in near new condition.

do you have a chassis shop with a Celette? the front rails/pan and bulkhead look like they are going to need a good pull. That said it might eliminate replacement.

+ 1 on this. After my little spin. After I strip it down first call will be the above before I do anything else.

So fingers crossed.
Pleased that Lola's wheel carrier is good for another round - everything helps in whittling the parts list down. I remember how proud I felt to have you and Lola drop me home after the previous sprints. Good on you for sharing her story Doug - I'm sure it will reassure others down the track that there is life after prang too. Like the idea of an external touch like the ducts to visually mark her rebirth BTW.

Thanks guys. Yes, it has been visually checked by and experienced Porsche panel shop and, once I have the guards off, and they have room in their shop it will go onto the Porsche "rack" to ensure she is back to factory spec. The chassis rails are undamaged, but the slam plate needs some work. We've decided it is less disruptive to the car to patiently panel beat the slam plate rather than cut it out and replace it.

Thanks John. I'll catch up with you soon, maybe next weekend.

Got a referral from CCS for a local company who refurb the Porsche steering rack and are dropping it in tomorrow morning.

After Graeme suggested I think about IROC style bumpers, I made a note of the upgrades/personalisations in my mind that I'd like to do during the rebuild if I can. It's work in progress but here's what I'm thinking so far....

The customisations/styles I have in mind are pretty subtle but hopefully make the car a bit unique to me.

At this stage I'm committed to the classic 964 coupe exterior with good quality second hand steel panels from Europacific (guards and rh door) and also replacement bumper.

Continuation with flag mirrors (or something unique/different to normal aeros).
Colour scheme and porsche graphics as per the attached photo (dark grey 17" cup2 wheels with polished/metallic grey rims).
Slightly lowered from current ride height. The KWv3 struts are currently set at their highest ride height position.
Conversion from primary bypass to secondary bypass (mostly done).
Cat bypass - standard on this car.
Ultimate wishlist: Fabsport headers with heat and Fabspeed muffler. Steve's latest 964 build is running with ex-ChrisM's Fabspeed muffler and sounded very sweet.
Carbon heater fan bypass. Less weight and cleaner engine bay.
Powdercoated cooling fan, fan shroud, and rocker covers... Red fan, black for the rest. Just so it looks good :-)
Steve Wong performance chip.

Interior:
Cup door cards (already installed).
FD Motorsport - Rothsport short shift solid aluminium short shift kit http://fdmotorsports.net/964-993-c2-...hort-shift-kit
Ultimate - centre console delete.
Half cage, colour matched to exterior colour.
Seats.... Work in progress on thinking on these.
Stereo..... Work in progress on thinking on this. Would like to delete it aesthetically but love my music for long run touring. Have wondered about relocating it into the glove box but could be a bit dangerous controlling it.
New RS style carpet scheme as current carpet is pretty tired.
Custom pedal back plate and pedals.
Refresh door sill kick plates.
Ultimate: leather dash.

And still thinking.....

Today's progress...

Dropped the steering rack into Wayne at Airflow Hydraulics.
A couple of hours later he called saying they'd stripped it and refinished a couple of teeth. It's now been sent off for crack testing before they reassemble it. It's looking good and should come in at NZ$630 + GST so happy with that news so far.

I also ordered the Cult Werks Carbon Fibre front bumper air ducts... See post above. They were recommended as they're very well made and there is no fixing screw or dimple in the front. They're bolted in from behind the bumper so have a very clean finish. They're also very well shaped. After having them recommended to me I then also read about them on the now famous and brilliant "964 refurb" thread (link below).

Also picked up on this thread was the alternative replacement oil cooler fan and mount from Kenlowe in the UK. I emailed them yesterday and had a response with pricing in my inbox. It looks to be a very good solution to me at less than the price of just the fan shroud mount. I think my oil fan is also stuffed as I got no life out of hot wiring it in the weekend :-(

Progress made over the last couple of days has been slow but.... I got the broken aircon fan shroud and right hand front spoiler (under side of the bumper) in to www.bumperreplacements.co.nz in Onehunga for plastic welding. I chose them as they're less than 2 kilometers from my house. While there I popped next door to an paint shop specialising in powdercoating and asked questions about powder coating some of my engine tin work and the fan.

I called at two automotive paint wholesalers looking for two pot K2 paint suitable for callipers with no luck. Google hasn't helped either. I will get in touch with Steve to see if he can supply it or recommend where I can get some from. It's what he recommends has worked well on his race cars over the years.

The highlight was getting the news from Wayne at Air Flo Hydraulics in Newmarket that my steering rack was all ready. It passed the crack test and was presented beautifully bead blasted, capped and taped up ready for me to re-install this weekend.

I'm not trying to kid myself that this will be an easy job. It was a pig to remove and reinstalling I think will be even trickier. Especially lining up the universal on the bottom of the steering shaft with the steering rack as it is installed into place. Sounds more like a nightmare to me, but we'll see.

Here's a photo of Wayne in the workshop with the steering rack all ready for me...

Doug, I have those decals set aside for you. Is there feedback on the Aerosol Caliper paints that put you off them ?
