Bad news but look at is as an opportunity to develope your car further and make it lighter

I've seen much worse, you would laugh if you saw the state of my rear quarter panels.

I think I may have a drivers side rear swing arm if want to compare it to check if yours is bent or you need to replace it.

Hopefully it is the arm , thank god it didn't go backward and hit the engine ...
What did go wrong then ..

I thought the swing arm was cast - therefore cannot bend? The spring plate and the mounting tube in the chassis would be the bendable bits?

My money is on the spring plate. I think you'd know about it a hell of a lot more if the chassis tube was bent.

Wow, was just drooling over your finished pics a few days ago. Love everything you've done with the car. Hopefully you get it back on the road soon and maybe, like others have said, an opportunity to make it even better.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all your messages. The car is currently with at Stuart's place where I've been ableto use a lift. Wing has been knocked out enough so I could fit a normal wheel in there and rear spring plate changed for a straight one. Also found that front castor plate was badly bent so that too has been repalced. I then took her for a drive and was shocked at how well the car is going. Really no indication it was crashed. Does pull very slighly to the left but really slightly , not noticeable unless you're looking for it. Since the front wheels got a whack that is hardly a surprise. Unfortunately though even after farily extensive examination we have not been able to figure out what caused the crash. As a precaution I am repalcing all discs and putting in braided hoses.. then I guess I'll go somewhere like Bruntingthorpe where I can do some high speed braking and see how it behaves.
The other outstanding thing is that there is a very slight clicking noise in the rack when wiglling it from side to side.. on initial take up in any position.. but the sterrign feels fine on the move. I have a feeling it was doing this before too but i never really noticed. In any case am taking the rack out and sending it to be checked out. Once the rack is back i'll take the car for geo and see how it all lines up.. if it looks ok then i've escaped a bent chassis! Fingers crossed..

The bent and straight Castor plate..
One slight issue is that the smaller of the two bolt holes, the non adjustable one, is bigger than the previous so the plate has some play until tight. The adjusting bolt hole is the same the other one a couple of mill bigger..

I had thought you'd short term thrown in the towel.
Lots of love and money, only to be bitten in the bum!!
Really hope you have good luck with this as you've build exactly what you want and tripped up at the first mogul
Good luck !
Best.

Car coming along nicely and almost ready now to go to geo and then in a few weeks also on gig for a final check..

In the meantime I have written article part 2 which details everything up to the crash... hope to write up part 3 detailing the repair process in a couple of weeks..

Thanks Paul... drove the car back to my garage yesterday for stage 2 of the repair process. Drives very well now.. and Sat am going to oxford to get basic Geo done and to Redtek to check on a small leak.
Once that is done on the 22nd it will go on a gig to check it is not bent.. so fingers crossed on that one.. but my feeling is that it is not..

Happy back home!
