964 Tiptronic conversion to G50 6-speed manual Tranny
Hi Guys,
I need some help here. I would like to convert my 964 tip with a 6speed G50/21 transmission. Will there any issues that i need to look out for? Such as clearances, mounting brackets or even bolting issues??
What kind of shopping list of parts or ECUs that i need to replace? as i understand the Tiptronic has a Transmission ECU linked to the Engine ECU, so i understand i need to get the wiring looms changed as well.
PLEASE HELP!

From previous thread trolling I'd say it's worth considering the sell-the-tip-and-pick-up-a-manual-car option, depending on your attachment to and specifics of your current 964.

There are people who have done it on here and its not a big a job as some make out.
Get yourself a copy of Excellence from Nov 2009, where a reader did the conversion.

Best way (or most economical way) is to find out what parts u need and pick them up cheap when they come up on ebay. Obviously the box will be the big $$$

A mech did mine for me. I used a G50/03. The debugging turned out to be nothing to do with the conversion. Pretty much bolt-up, routing clutch hard lines and cutting for the shifter tunnel.
Regarding the ECU, it wasn't touched. They simply removed the Tiptronic controller and the harness remains in the car. The ECU has a jumper wire for coding transmission type, that's all.
Cost wise, in my opinion it makes no sense if you don't build something you can't buy on a stock car - RS parts, gearing, etc.

I would think a donor car that was manual would have to be had to do it easily. I considered a cheap tip to convert when I had my wrecked cab with manual as a donor. Then found a manual targa with missing burnt motor and new paint. Perfect fit. I guess if you have the loot go for it. I have a extra regular speedo for ya. .

From my inexperienced perspective, that $9k ebay auction seems like a decent deal. I was under the impression that a 6spd G50 transaxle by itself would cost that much.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe there is a world of difference between a RoW G50/21 and the the G50/20. I think it's argued that a 5-speed G50/03 is on par with the /20. The 20 has a short first, and another cruising gear. Again, please correct me if I'm wrong as it's been a while since I've looked.
I think you're better piecing it together with a combo of new and used parts.

This might be a good option if you're looking to do the swap. I'd compile a parts list, send it over and see if he has everything. If so, it's a great deal and you'll have some left over parts to sell to recoup some of the cost. No affiliation.
