It will be interesting to see what this brings.

I had the opportunity to buy this car back in May for $67k. Was a beautiful car but needed some TLC although nothing major from what I could tell. Just too many Porsche's and projects. I tried to convince the owner he was premature and should hold out for more but apparently did not believe me.

Pics of the car at one of our cars and croissants events.

I'm onto a project car, an 89 c4 without an engine. Needs a rear right quarter and that's about all. My son and I hope to build an engine. What are decent rolling chassis worth?

I'd hope a roller w/ body damage and no engine would be way south of $20k...

I'm getting $8k or so for the rolling chassis plus it needs bodywork. Count on another 8/9k$ to build a 3.8l.

I bought my roller targa with brand new paint after a engine fire. No motor tranny and spoiler as it melted. Otherwise a complete car. I had everything to put it together, including the black spoiler. I paid $6k. Was the prefect car I was looking for except it was targa. Since then the targa has grown on me. It was a local car and the guy had a ton or Interest on Clist. I begged to look first and did. I thought it was a steal. If I didn't have all parts from a wreck sitting in my garage with wiring harness etc, not so much. Needless to say the seller prob could of got $10k

I thought about doing this route as well b/c I could build over time. Pardon for the noob question...May I ask where would one begin their search to find just a chassis? Aside from local salvage yards, etc.

If you can think you can build a 3.8L engine for "8/9k$," prepare yourself to be gravely disappointed.

Even a stock 3.6L rebuild is going to cost at least that much in parts alone, probably more. I am going through this rebuild decision right now and to keep it stock is already $16K ($12K in parts, $4K in labor), before taxes. If I wanted to upgrade to the 3.8L setup, I'm told this would add at least another $5K, so realistically, to do a 3.8L properly, it's somewhere between $20K and $30K depending on who does the labor and the scope of the rebuild.

Please read these two recent threads on 3.8L rebuilds:

Thanks for educating me and possibly heading off a big decision! Anything else I should read?

Not mine. I did look at it....back in May. I passed, back then he wanted somewhere around $28 or $29K. It is a Tiptronic, with some issues. If I can recall correctly, Airbag warning light was on, manual spoiler switch does not work, fading paint work around sunroof (very minor), missing spare air pump. Otherwise, the car seems to drive fine. I was not looking for a Tiptronic car, plus all those factors, I passed.

I am not sure why it didn't sell. With the price now, even if those issues still exist, perhaps it is worth it for someone looking for an automatic.
