^^ The worst part is that it was advertised as a coupe on Autotrader.ca so I emailed them immediately. Ack.

Carfax is good for $hit.... I had $9k in damage, reported to insurance, and carfax shows nothing of this. I clearly have no issues divulging the damage, as it's all over Renn when it happened. Story travel faster than the Porsche you are looking at. It also won't show if the owner paid for the repairs him/her self. Not even sure how carfax is getting information if my damage wasn't shown on their report.

carfax is a guideline not 100% accurate, but in most cases it helps if the seller isn't so honest.
Let's not forget one can spot ****ty gaps, paint meter can tell a story and if you are careful you can find things that aren't original. At the same time if it's done right then who cares, most of us take these cars and rip them up to make our own.

So why so many cars being bought from the states and shipped overseas? Are they harder to come by or cheaper. Several cars I personally know of have left the US...what gives?

Insurance doesn't like repairs being reported to carfax because it opens them to diminished value claims.

There's a big price difference between US cars and those for sale in Germany for instance!
Check out www.mobile.de

I drove from Cologne to Basel Switzerland this time last year and past at least 6 US Spec 911's

I think you will find the exchange rate has a lot to do with it. In the 80's I helped bring over 70 cars to the US from Switzerland and Germany. At the time the Swiss franc to dollar was roughly 5 to 1 and cars were leaving there in droves. I purchased a gorgeous 74 RS clone freshly completed using factory parts at 44,000 Swiss franc's by the time I got it back to the states I had less than $10k into a car that would have cost me over $50k here. The problem was after a while there were slim pickings and most everything was a poor restoration. Current exchange rates they save nearly 40% and prices being somewhat less here it is a win win for them.

wOw... No wonder there is a drain over here. That's an eye opener. I knew there was a huge vacuum overseas but that explains all the dealer activity. Shame that it's putting the affordability and availability of these cars out of reach here. I was having a hard time figuring out why anyone would export a RSA to countries that have RSs, but this makes sense. Sorta.
