GP White back together Again!

Here's another pic of something I've tried since going to the Turbo arches I went to 18" wheels and always been concerned at how flimsy the rack mounts are! Whilst I know porsche do a brace I decided to make something a bit more substantial, note this was made easy by having a non assisted rack I.e. no pipes.
The trouble with these mods is trying to prove they actually work but when I start hill climbing this year I'm hoping to see that in my reduced times!!

Have you also removed all the rubber out of the steering arms and rack mounting??
Thanks for you reply on your manual rack mods., did you just remove the piping to the rack and plug up the hydraulic holes on the rack housing or did you do anything on the inside as well?

Yeh I'm sure it has but with doing other things I'll never get a true back to back comparison but as you say it's got to help.
What I did was remove the small valving from the pinion gear stripped the rack out and on a lathe turned down the washer/seal in the middle of the rack. Built it back up with some quality grease and blanked off holes and all feels fine. Pulled out lines and pump once I was happy!
The only rubber I have left is in the rack mounts which I don't know why I left?! Something for this winter Ha Ha.
Here's a picture of the brace without the X piece I've also made my own bump steer kit to get steering as neutral as possible

Hi Rob
Ha Ha that's no problem matey! To be honest it's a Rennline cut off mount so not my idea!! I've got 2 cables connected on internal and on external
The item you're referring to is the brake power booster as this car was a C4 so the front diff went where the servo goes on a C2
Cheers

I spoke to the guys at RLR today about settings on my car, they have had it on the scales and told me its weighing in at just over 1100Kg's, is that good for a 964? TBH I was hoping it was going to be closer to 1000Kg but maybe that's not realistic? Any views?

1100 Kg is very light! That's 964 cup territory. A standard 964RS is just under 1250 Kg. The latter is just about where mine is but haven't had chance to weight it since the interior strip out. Hoping to sneak on the scales at Oulton park while we're there on the RS day.

Do they have scales there for people to use? That's very good! Is there normally some tyre people there my rears are ok but if the weather is good I may need to replace?!
When I was fitting the arches etc. in 12/13 a friend was with me with corner scales so after he was finished I put the car on and it weighed 1060Kg's but it didn't have everything fitted door bars I think front discs so that was why I hoped it would be towards the 1000Kg mark!

Yes the scrutineering bay has a proper drive-on, balance beam jobbie. As long as it's not covered up or roped off, we should be able to use it. There used to be tyre support but I've not seen anyone there the last couple of years.

Hi Kos
Yes I would like to remove some more weight its just where from?! Due to regs Blue Book I'm limited as to what I can do i.e. I have to run the original material for the screen and the monocoque of the car. So there's not much more I can do, the car needs a full paint which when that happens I want to pull all the wiring out and make a new lightweight version, at the same time I'm going to get t he bumper irons made in carbon fibre. I'm busy getting parts together for a new engine which will get a new exhaust, the guy that I use may be able to manufacture one from Ti if stress is not an issue!
So there are a few areas but none of them huge savings! It all adds up though eh!!
Cheers Simon.

ha ... you have to follow race regs,
exhaust in titanium I like to see that ...I had race exhausts made in mild steel then plated wonder how it compares to Titanium,
have you consider a lithium battery..
I was looking at the C4 lightweight spec, I wonder how they manage this car to be at 1100 kg ....?

Yeh I know C4 lightweight is 1100kg's with glass and metal panels!!
The only problem with the Ti exhaust will be the headers as its so hard and therefore brittle so it could crack during use!
I've already got a lithium battery which believe it or not saved over 15Kg's.
so I'll have to keep chipping away at it and see what we can achieve 1000kg is the goal!!
Cheers Simon

Well that would be an added bonus! The battery I've got weighs 2.2Kg the first one weighed less but just didnt seem powerful enough so I got next size
Having gone the journey I have I'm beginning to realise that getting a 964 to 1000 or near is going to be difficult but I think achievable well just keep trying!
One of the things I have noticed is since reducing weight it has made the car so much better in every aspect it's a big advantage!
