Default Headlight screw hole rounded

messed up big time while trying to install my headlights I some how managed to remove all the threads on the wing bucket area where the screw attaches.
Now if I remove headlight and look at the hole the screw just pushes in and out with out actually threading on the wing. I am confused on how to proceed.

Options 1 could think of was to glue or try to weld a 5mm nut on the rear mounting section so the screw/bolt can thread on to that?

option 2 was to use a speed fastener to slip over the metal and find one that will accept a 5mm bolt?

does any one else have any other suggestions?? I am stuck as I have to use that screw/bolt 5MM as it is a special type that has threads on the head to accept a further screw for the headlight trim surround.

You could try using a crush nut if you can find that small we have them at work for repairs.basically you drill out to fit it in tighten it till it collapse from back side tightening against the sides of the whole leaving just a threaded insert to screw into.

Maybe try using a slightly larger gauge screw.

This is a common issue that we've solved using clip nuts; something like these: http://www.mcmaster.com/#clip-on-nuts/=qp6f7i

They come in different styles & types and I've found them to be a great solution.

Rivet nut or crush nut work well, check out Babalouies thread on this.

One of mine was fixed as per George's suggestion. Drill out old nut and press in a rivnut.

+2 - I've used rivet nuts and they have worked well for me.

As a temp fix, try mashing the front/rear of the tab together with a mole grip to get some metal back into the screw-hole. I used that to tighten mine a few years ago and they're still OK.

That is a good idea harry as I was about to dremel the rear excess metal off to make it flush so the clip nut or speed fit nut could slide over the metal. But your idea might work if I can squeeze some metal back in and cut into it again. Other wise it is one of the above options all which are doable except I do not feel comfortable working with riv nuts
