Default Big Reds on 964

To put big reds on the front of a 964 I know you need the adapter/spacers brackets. Can the big reds be fitted without brackets, say by changing the wheel carrier to 993 ones? What other implications does this make? TIA

Hi Pervy,

This is what I did, it's probably the cheapest solution, my front callipers are from a 964 Turbo:

Adapters like these.

964 Turbo discs:

Fitted with 18" Veloce Speedline wheels (I think 17" is minimum, but check) no spacers required with my setup:

Cheers,
Paul

If you don't want adapters then it's either 993 carriers or 993RS carriers.
You then need to use there respective size discs...

But as Paul says, check out Bill's posts as he is the man... (he seems to post a little more on Pelican).
There are lots and lots of posts detailing what's required, search facility is your friend.

Does the standard 964 spare wheel fit over Big Reds or do you need to change that too? (Just a thought to those of you that are upgrading to bigger calipers!)

You would probably need the 16" version, I think standard is 15"

If you have a rear puncture you're fine and if you have a front puncture you could stick one of the rears on the front and use the spacesaver on the rear, or buy a can of tyreweld

yes, By using any of the flooowing, 964t, 964RS, 993 or 993RS wheel carriers you bolt the caliper directly to the carrier
all the 964 carriers are steel, all the 993 carriers are aluminum, the 993RS requires special tie rods and is for very low cars, the others are for normal ride heights.

w/ 964 carriers use 964 or 928 rotors, w/ 993 carriers use 993 rotors as the os is different

the 993 longitudinals push the suspension outboard by ~ 13mm per side so the 993 tie rods are longer and will need to be shortened for use on a 964

you will want 993 rear calipers on stock 964 rear rotors(or 968M030) and you will want 993 booster and m/c

most will still want to remove the oe p/v

Bumping this thread.

I just picked up an RS America, and it has big reds on the front, standard brakes on the rear. I gather that you need adapters for the front in order to put big reds on, but do the rears just bolt on?

Only the fronts need adapters for the 964 knuckle. "Big reds" really only applies to the front calipers and rotors. Be careful what you choose for the rear when it comes to NB 964. There are different rotor/caliper combos that have been discussed ad nauseum on this forum. Brake bias is the issue. Many people will keep the rears stock and paint the calipers to match.
