Default Motor installed and now giving me fits.

I got my perfect running motor into my targa, I was a fool and did not drain a couple gallons out of tank that was in there prob a couple years. I just added 8 gallons. The car ran like **** and smoked like hell. I hoped it would blow out but just fouled plugs. I finally smartened up and drained all the gas and added new 5 gallons, even purged the line running back. I took out all the plugs and replaced them with some older ones I had that were fine and dry, and cleaned a few others on wire wheel. The car has spark, I used the coils and ignition modules from the wrecked car. When I just got it to start after flooring it and riding the starter, I disconnected the secondary distributer module and it ran rough for 10 sec and then died when the heater tube element sparked off something, prob coincidence. Rotor turns on secondary dist. Has fuel and is hard starting if at all. Have to pump pedal, or will start if left alone by just turning key after hr or so. Swapped DME, checked every connection, cleaned O2 sensor, I am at a loss. Plugs get spark and when I pulled one out it was wet with gas. I can smell gas after turning it over and see it coming out of fuel filter. Vacuum lines seem fine. Car is running super rich when it is running and is not running the smoothest. I am at a loss. If it makes any difference, motor from a 90' and the car is a 91'.

The fact that it runs with spark suggests that the DME (ecu) is powered up and working, hence the only consideration is why the engine is over fuelling. Try looking at these for starters:
Fuel injectors leaking?
Engine (cylinder head) temperature sender not connected or faulty?
Air Flow Meter stuck open?
Wide Open Throttle switch on throttle body closed circuit?

Double check all the vac and vent tubes. I had a similar issue a few days back where the smaller of the two lines that connect to the top of the oil tank wasn't seated properly a the plenum end. I was surprised how much a difference such a small air bleed could cause. Super rich running, just like you describe.

I checked the oil lines, and all vacuum hoses seem connected. I will dbl check connection to air flow meter in a few. At first I though it was the bad gas, but trying to run on just the primary dist it died. That should tell me weak spark, or nothing from the top dist. I will check that out also in a few.

Too rich is a default mode. AFM, Knock sensor, temperature sensor?

You say the car had been sitting for long. Have you gone over every ground and connection that is from the targa? A bad (corroded) ground can render an otherwise working sensor or system unoperable.

Went through all grounds. All that was left was the CCU. Had another one in stock and bang! All fixed. Now I can finish putting the rest together. Thanks for the effort boys.

Whatever the computer is under driver seat. I always brain freeze the name. Now I am fighting pads for front that are too tight. Should not have to grind the edges down..

garrett, you mean grinding down pad sides? I made sure not to over do it as I don't want loose pads either. They were still tight enough that I had to whack them in place. They are Textar pads.

Check your ignition coils- symptoms sound like my car after a rebuild and at least one of my coils had failed. replaced both and car was fine

You do not want the brake pads to be tight in the calipers, should be able to push them in by hand. The reason they are tight is corrosion under the end plates that in turn lifts them up. Either take the plates off and clean the corrosion out, or you can do as you already did, but fit the pads so they will slide in.
