Default Heater duct doesn't quite reach engine fan shroud

I replaced my (rear, plastic) fan shroud not too long ago and since then the heater duct doesn't really reach.

Borrowed photo:

The part labeled Left Heater Duct is too far to the left, and only butts up against the plastic part to the rear of the engine cooling fan.

I seem to remember reading about this, but can't find any info; is there a fix? Do the metal standoffs on the Heater Blower need to be trimmed?

TIA!

Can you take photos so we can see exactly what it looks like?

It's apart at the moment (for other reasons) and I'm hoping to find a solution before reassembly

Basically it's as if the duct from the belt driven fan to the main HVAC fan is ~.25" short or the main HVAC fan should be .25" to the right.

If I recall correctly, the previous post I read suggested it was because of 964 parts being superceded by not-quite-the-same 993 parts.

I remember reading that you can use a 993 engine fan assembly in a 964, but you have to trim the 2 aluminum spacers, or use the 993 spacers. Could it be that the part you replaced is a 993 part ???

It could be that my HVAC fan was replaced by a 993 part by the PO (goes to check...)

Thanks, crg! Do you remember anything else?

That is it! Unfortunately, I don't have the old housing/bushes, so I'm going to have to trim the ones I do have. It's good to know they're removable.

Thank you, crg53 and g60pops for pointing me in the right direction.

I trimmed mine with a dremel as they are easily removeable.
Before I knew that is was the spacers being too long my g/friend and I struggled for nearly 3 hours one Sunday afternoon trying to fit the heater duct to the rubber shroud, in the end we gave up after our lower backs had
had enough!

I just measured the cut off bits and I got 4.18mm but I then also filed the main part smooth as the cuts were rough so that is why I put 'around' as I have no way of measuring the amount filed off as it was metal particles.
