Hats off to you as I used to put the vinyl on the BMW mini's when they first came out and on the cooper s the rear spoiler had curves like the front bumper on the 964 and was a biotech as you say to get right and I seemed to get it on the first go or it took up to 3/4 go's....the heat gun is your friend and the more you play with the vinyl the faster you get and I found counting to ten when I got to a real frustrating bit helps before I chucked the heat gun across the workshop...ha,ha,ha

As c didy says you might have to put a join under the mirrors as it may not heat form as there super curvy & make sure the wife & kids are out when you tackle the front bumper!!

Great stuff pchar it looks fantastic & will be looking out for the pics on the next post...

What a great project. Looking forward to watching your progress.

I'm intrigued about the peeling clear coat on the paint. Is this something to do with metallic paint? My GP white has no such coating.

How does the gloss compare to paint? Just curious how obvious it is that it's vinyl and not paint.

I wonder too if it can be waxed to make it really shine...
The gloss finish on the vinyl is definately comparable to paint. The downside is like paint it will show lot more defect in the paint. The best way with a bad surface is obviously with a matt vinyl. A rough or not so even paint surface will show almost everything with a gloss vinyl.

How much does a roll of the material cost to do the entire car?

I know most auto detail places charge around $3,000 to wrap
a complete car.
I was told that for a small car 40-45 feet was sufficient. I purchase a 50 ft. roll because I knew I would screw up somewhere, and that there will be waste. The 50 ft. roll costed me $502 shipped.

Agree I have already experienced this,.. The mirror will definately have a seam. The aero mirrors are too round and small to wrap the vinyl without tearing or having significant creases.

Thanks boxsey, yeah I am also intrigued why is my clear coat peeling only in that sport. I had a guy at a body shop looked at it, and it mentioned that perhaps the previous owner used a high powered rotary buffer and applied to much pressure in that area. And eventualy, over time burned the clear coat. This is a multi stage metalic paint, base coat-clear coat.

This weekend I worked on the front bumper. This was a lot more work than I anticipated. The trick is really to apply heat evenly and often. Not to overstretch the vinyl is the key, by using heat only to remove creases and wrinkles.
I had a mojor set back when I fried my wife's air dryer. So to wall mart I go and bough another one, cheap one of course. Chances are I'll burn that one too before the end of the project.
The front bumper has so many courbature and nooks and cranny that it made it impossible to do again without making seams. The vinyl can only take so much stretch before rupturing.

Subscribed. Can't wait to see it completed! I have to admit that I have thought about doing this many time since my car does 90% track duty, but I'm not sure that I possess the skill and/or patience to do it properly.

Might have to go to PA and have you do my car haha, but great work. Taking your time is key in this type of work.

Ok, here is the final look of the front bumper. This represent about 8-10 hours alone. I know, I may be slower than most. But Just need it to look right. At some point we were three working on this project my wife and my son provided 4 additional hands to pull/tug/hold onto the vinyl and one more hand for the air dryer,...Real PITA, but I am happy with the result.

So did you end up wrapping the bumper in one piece? Or multiple pieces? Wasn't sure after this statement: "The front bumper has so many courbature and nooks and cranny that it made it impossible to do again without making seams"

Either way, it looks frakking AWESOME!
