Check out the racecar consolidated thread where I have pictures of the process I used.

I'm in the process of doing mine on my RS America Race Car. Going the Fenn Lane replacement sunroof panel route. I'll post pics on a new thread in the next few days?

993PET has already mentioned the Fenn Lane panel route

Its odd they seem well known in the US but are largely unknown in the UK despite being based in the Midlands!

http://www.imptechnic.co.uk/

Options

Replacement steel panel in correct gauge curvature etc from Fenn Lane (about £170.00 for the panel IIRC)

Replacement fibreglass or carbon sunroof panel bonded in.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...-part-1-a.html

Complete replacement roof section (upwards of £1500.00 for the panel I believe)

Weld in existing sunroof panel, the option used in the link below

http://www.cagedcar.com/BuildUpdate/index.html

Or something Ive seen more recently. Strip your existing roof panel down and bond or weld it back in with sealant on the outside, so externally it still looks like you have a sunroof but you still have the advantages of weight saving and increased headroom

Brilliant. I go to sleep and wake up with all this information to investigate, thanks guys. It's a small world. The guy I bought my car from also owns the silver 964 built by Lee in the cagedcar link and I will be having it looked after mechanically by Nine Excellence.

Thanks guys I contacted Fenn Lane Motorsport http://www.imptechnic.co.uk/ and spoke to Chris who was very helpful.

They make a panel in 1mm steel with a 1mm step flange 20-25mm wide. It is fitted with screens and trim out. The cassette is removed. The aperture has to be trimmed out slightly. It is spot welded from the centre out to get the tension right (on supply it appears the curvature is not sufficient). A gauge is suppled with the part to check curvature. Job is finished with U-Pol D polyester/aluminium metal filler.

Part ordered suppled /delivered with gauge for £150.

Did he give a guide price if they installed?

To remove the existing sunroof panel cables etc... This thread on Pelican explains it really well

http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...oof_repair.htm

There is quite a lot of cutting/grinding to complete once the guts are out. That's the stage I'm at.

One problem I've run into regarding spot welding the Fenn Lane Panel into the car is finding spot welder tongs that are long enough to reach to the back of the sunroof and close around the roll cage that is already in my car. I think we will end up mig/plug welding the panel in place.

Though I love driving with the sunroof open (to better hear the motor), I'm fascinated by the idea removing all the unnecessary equipment (sunroof, ac, carpets, radio, electric seats, etc) in the quest for simplicity and light weight.

I wanted to share the pictures I found of the process. Given the tread title, I hope it's OK to add this as a resource (as a reference for the right or wrong method?).

I like the flush mounted rear screen! If if were my car, I would delete the rain gutters while they were at it.

This process was performed by DP Motorsports (no afill.)
