the issue w/ using 993 tie rods on a 964 is that the 964 longitudinals o/s the A-arms 5mm less than a 993 on each side, so each side tie rods needs to be that much shorter on a 964

Paul, I think that is not correct: now at rear your disc is 24 mm , the turbo is 28 mm!!

Paul, absolutely! I've got plenty more pictures where those came from , if that would help.

Thanks Bill for the clarificaiton about why the 993RSR tie-rods were too long, and needed to be cut.

PAOLOP is correct you shouldn't be using those 965 rear calipers

the 965 rear caliper wants a 28mm rotor, minimum rotor width is ~26mm

964 rear caliper is 24mm

the 965s certainly do bolt up but besides having undersized rotors they do not center very well on the 24s either.

the correct caliper for you application is 964RS rear or 993 rear, these are essentiall the same caliper w/ different part #s

Thanks Guys,

Perhaps I mis-understood previous details, I'll address that.

Hi Erick,

I'm particularly interested in the "sway bar issue" if you have any photos taken during (before/after) the installation of the vacuum booster, they would be enormously helpful, proof positive, so to speak.

I've have all the new parts & I'm ready to go, so you could say I've jumped right in

Thanks again,
Paul

RSAErick - Good write up and nice photo's - Well Done - I did the larger caliper and full 993 MC swap but obtained the full 993 MC and Booster as a unit and just dropped it in - Did the same with the brake lines. Only issue I had was in the attachment point for the 993 MC - because it is longer I had to mod the bracket and fittings to make it work -
What size brake disc did you use and where did you obtain??
- I am looking for new disc ( 320+) that will marry up to my hats but am finding these hard to find what i am looking for. You hats look just like mine is the reason I am asking.

Hi Gus,

Pleased to hear of your success.

When you say you obtained the 993 MC and booster as a unit do you mean they were already joined together? Did you disconnect the sway bar to drop it in? Also, the issue with the bracket, I'm assuming was with an existing 964 bracket not a new 993 bracket?

Cheers,
Paul

Paul - Yes, I obtain all as one piece already joined - so really was easy to install - Sway bar was not an issue at all, did not disconnect or move - just a little muscle to adjust for a moment. THe bracket on the end of the 993 MC was the stock 964 bracket that was designed to fit the shorter MC - so it had to be modified as well as the wire mess mounting point. Not a really difficult job, just took time to figure out correct relationships to install.
What size brake disk did you use and where did you obtain - see earlier question - would like to know as I need to obtain
Thanks for the come back -
Gus

Hi Gus,

Thanks for that, it's a great help

Bill Verburg really is your man for this and I'm sure he'll chip in with part nos. shortly for you.

On my fronts I used the 964 turbo callipers (with adapters) and 322 x 32 rotors as fitted to the turbo.

On the rear I used the 964 turbo callipers (which bolt straight on) with 964RS rotors (968CS M030) however I should be using 993 rear callipers with them. I won't be able to get the wear out of the existing pads and will have to be careful as the rotors are only 24mm and they should be 28mm for the turbo callipers.

So, I'm going to take Bill & Paulo's great advice and change the rear callipers to 993 items (bolt straight on) to match the 964RS rotors (968CS M030) when I get the rest of the system sorted.

Look hereOleg Perelet has put together a really nice piece on using 993 m/c in a 964
Bill,

Once again, this is perfect info

Thanks again,
Paul

Paul - thanks, I have the 993 rear brakes on mine as I purchased all 4 calipers for the car at one time. That is why I made the change to the 993 MC.

I'm using the Girodisc brake rotors and hats (for 993TT). You could try to contact them. Otherwise, talk to Steve Weiner about A/P rotors. The 993 or Racing forums might have some other options for you. Good luck!

Hi Paulo & Bill,

Just bought a pair of 993 callipers to go with my rear 968 M030 discs which I will soon send for a refurb and paint.

I'll sell the 964 turbo rear callipers.

Thanks again,
Paul

The 964 rears are perfect for 911 guys as they mate up easily w/ 930 rear rotors on a 911 trailing arm, some work is involved but it's relatively easy

another vote for the Girodisks, they use Coleman rotors and last at least 2xs as long as oe 993tt

but you can also get the 322x32 rotors to fit 993tt hats directly from Coleman,
