I noted recently that Demon Tweeks now stock the Hawk pads, don't know the price but worth a quick call!?

The Hawks also create a lot of nasty dusty but that doesn't bother me as they're only used with my tatty track wheels.
Thanks for that Steve - where do you source the Hawk brake pads from?

1 or 2 litres of fluid, something top spec like motul rbf600, high boiling point is the key, usually given in degF (~600+ is good).

Best add in the hard pipes between the flexible hose and the caliper, they're cheap from OPC and all to easy to munge when doing the job. I've got as pipe flaring tool and we could make up replacements fairly easily in a crisis but having factory replacements make things a bit less stressful.

Also get some braided brake lines if you haven't already got them, the old hoses will be on their last legs and everything is much easier if you can just cut the hoses and get a socket on the pipe fittings.

I'd go with boxeys suggested hawk blues (I've only had good experiences with EBC reds (old compound) on the datsun but they're similarly dusty and similar price so why deviate from tried and tested hawks)

Finally and just because of personal risk aversion I'd go plain rather than cross drilled discs, I've known drilled ones to crack in other applications under heavy abuse - I haven't seen too much of that reported on 964 applications but I've not looked. Maybe the experts on here have a view?
Brilliant cheers Alex what is the pet number for the hard pipes? PS. Are you free to do this the weekend of the 17th of MARCH? Are you sure you're cool with me potentially eating up your weekend?

964 355 581 03 and 964 355 582 03 are the pns for the regular and rs fitment, so i guess they will do the job. Looks like they may have been superceded by the same pns ending 04.

I get my Hawks from Pegasus Autoracing:

https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/ha...p?make=PORSCHE

No affiliation.

I need to check my stock at the weekend in a view to order more. If anyone over hear wants some I could do a mini order as you get the best price if buying more than 3 sets.

Ive got 993 calipers on my 64, adapters where £100.
But needed work to get em on, messin and a shim to line them up.
Ive got yellas on my car and cant fault them.

I allso use them on my bm track car and cant complain, cheap and effective. (ive spoken to a few kumho challenge drivers and they use yellas).
Cant afford the pagids.

Frank, you need to call me if you are serious about this brake mod or read up on everything that Bill has said. You will need 928 rotors on the front not 993 as offset different. You will also need 993 rear calipers or the bias will be out. And the big thing is as soon as you split the brake system it will need bleeding by a Porsche garage as can not be done properly at home. trust me I have tried!!!

Well thank gosh I haven't ordered the parts yet - Grant has Big Red fronts and 4 Pot rears and seems perfectly happy?

Thanks for the front rotor info! I suppose rear 993 rotors will fit rear 993 callipers?

Based on ordering at least four sets of standard pads which fit 964 front and rear (4 pots) and 993 rears, these are working out at about £132 per set:

Standard size pads - HB170 blue

Based on ordering at least two sets of Big red pads (also fit 928 big blacks), these are working out at about £211 per set.

Big red/black pads - HB184 blue

This includes shipping to me and import tax that I have to pay on arrival. I guess that sending the pads on to you by post would add about £15 to your total bill.

This is all based on:

Boxsey: 2 X HB170 blue
Cheeksyboy: 1 x HB184 blue, 1 x HB170 blue
Frank: 1 x HB184 blue, 1 x HB170 blue

If there's more than this I would check first to see if we can get more discount.

When putting 993 calipers on the rear you don't need to buy 993 rotors. You use standard 964 rear rotors or the 968 M030 rear rotors if you want drilled rotors. The 993 calipers bolt straight on.

I think Strega was pointing out that the 993 front rotors on your shopping list was wrong (you need bigger rotors for big reds - Bill will point you to the right ones). Also that the C4 brake system is a PIA to bleed because of the all extra components.

Re bleeding the brakes, you just need a pressure bleeder and lots of fluid. You can even bleed the pdas without a hammer. Done both myself a couple of times.

Culled from another thread, so you'll want to confirm them.

"The rotor that fits is the 928 GTS or the 965 rotor,

LH
928-351-045-01 solid
965.351.045.00 (cast hole)

RH
928-351-046-01 solid
965.351.046.00 (cast holes)
"

The key is that the adapter you get matches the 964 hub, the 928gts rotor and the 993tt caliper.

Like is say i'd go with the 928 part nos as they are solid.
